Xsara Vts Mpg?

Recommended Posts

I know this is a 205 forum but i've seen a few on here who've owned these. I bought one recently to drive around in for a few months then possibly break. Driving around normally with the odd quick blast it returns 22mpg, is this right? I was hoping for a bit more out of it really.

Sounds distinctly low, but the temperatures at the moment won't do MPG any favours - certainly both my 306 and 205 are both well down on what they normally return economy wise.

The Xsara VTS's I've had have done around 30 to the gallon to give you some idea.

I'm getting low 30's fairly consistently on my drive to work and back in my gti6 engined ZX, has a PH2 inlet but not mapped, and is probably 75 kilo's or so lighter.

On a decent run I'm getting mid 30's easily.

Hmmmm, wonder if it is the temp then or a problem.

If i take it easy or give it a beating it still gives the same i'd say, such a shame as its a bloody nice car to drive round in, really surprised me.

I'd get the lambda and CTS checked, the temperature doesn't seem to affect mine greatly at all as it warms up quickly (original oil-water heat exchanger fitted) and the thermostat holds it bang on 83 degrees till I'm in traffic for some time.

I still drive mine fairly quickly but they key is to use the torque they have and not scram them to the limiter and carry speed, its surprising quite how much they can carry sometimes.

Definitely, i'm really impressed with it, bar the fuel consumption! The exhaust has been blowing, i wonder if that would mess it up a bit? Might just replace the cts anyway, for what they cost.

Blowing exhaust wont help as it'll cause strange waves in the exhaust pulses, I found torque was down a bit on mine due to a leaky cat-centre pipe join.

Thats where mine has gone. I'll have to get it sorted and see if it improves at all.
