Driveshaft Oil Seals: Do These Look Like Oe Parts?

Recommended Posts

pug_ham

Sold by Neat autos in West Drayton so I'd expct them to be oe seals but there are a couple of people on here that sell the driveshaft oil seals for a similar price (or maybe less).

Graham.

BE gearbox seals parts numbers are 312144 and 312146. They are the same for most MA and some ML gearboxes aswell. Thats the new type btw.

Bought these. Guess what. They leaked.

Got the new Pug OE ones to go in, which look very much like Corteco to me.

Never had issue with Corteco seals, tis what GSF have supplied me, look exactly like what Neat have pictured.

did you whack them in flush with the casing?

they are meant to protrude by different amounts each side.

It was only the passenger side I changed. I had a faulty (brand new) driveshaft that had to come out and I caught the seal when I refitted it. It was only a minor leak, but I needed to sort it so bought the parts from the Ebay link. It was not a good fit at all. Too small IMHO as it pushed in with just finger pressure. It was all I had so I put some RTV around it and hoped for the best! Alas, it was still leaking so the Pug OE one will go in at the weekend. This is what Miles fitted when he rebuilt the box for me and it was spot on.

I'm not knocking the part, it just seems my bad luck continues!

It was fitted as per the manual by the way.

As a comparisson I bought one of each today (GSF "old" style like the link and a Pug OE with the modified outer protector). The Pug one is actually bigger to the eye, with more sealing ribs around the circumference.

I only buy Dealer ones now, Far too often the pattern ones have leaked so for the sake of £10.00 it's not worth the risk or time in my book.

I'll have to check at work tomorrow, Not sure if I have at the moment

The older you get, the more you realise dealer parts are pretty good value time wise! I don't think I have ever had a fault with dealer parts. I'm often disappointed with non genuine parts. Theres quite a difference between what people call Original Equipment and Genuine.
