309 T16 4x4

I have always had a big interest in rallycross back in the 80's and 90's as I used to go with my parents as kids and watch it on TV, as I now do withthe more modern machinery with my son on Motors TV. The car that has intrigued me for a while was Will Gollops ill-fated 309 which he campaigned in Europe in 1993 after the success of the Metro 6R4 BiTurbo previously. I have been able to pick up an old VHS video of the season, dug the video player out of the loft and bought some basic video capture kit and figured out how it works....

The car itself is owned by Batfinks brother (Graeme) http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=113328 but was rumoured to originally run a modified T16 Evo subframe amongst other parts, before it all got chopped out to be fitted in the back of a 306 T16 which was more successful.

It is quite hard to find the actual spec of this car or who built it (John Cross & G-Tech??) so any further info would be appreciated

colin needs to finish off the suspension and steering I think, then it needs a custom driveshaft and is ready for wiring.

Doubt it, and looks like a YB rather than a T16, certainly in the pics I've seen!

Surely the BX wasn't standard?

Was the BX a works build from the Group B era, or a private one?

Gollop?? He did us an xu8T at one stage though. It was a 2000cc rather than the 1775cc. Was supposed to be around 700, but I don't know unfortunately as I wasn't around those cars in that era. Friend of mine had that engine but don't know if he still does. The one pictured in that video is a red peugeot rocker cover from what I see .

I love the way I post a video of a 309 T16 and everyone asks about a BX! I think there are a lot of beard and sandal wearers on the forum!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/daviddb/51572...72921/lightbox/ Is it you?!

Jean Luc Pailler is still on the European rallycross scene and pilots a 207 and has a beard too

(cue the questions about Kenneth Hansens C4 WRC......)

He was also competing a BMW in the Andros trophy that was on TV recently

As far as I know the 309 only had T16 parts. All the bits went on to his 306 replacement and one of the next owners welded in sierra inner wings to fit ford running gear before abandoning the project. All thats cut out now though and the front properly spaceframed.

engine in the 306 looked more like an XU10 last time I saw it, not the XU8, but I've never seen the engine bay of the 309 (till I saw the Honda lump in it)
