Cylinder Head Difference

Recommended Posts

woodsy

HI guys, iam in middle of rebuilding an 8v for my daily workhorse and have to now sort out the cylinder head. I have 3 in the garage, the original which has been skimmed too many times over the years and wont accept the standard timing belt pin positions.

I have another which has no cam caps so has been thrown away now and lastly the other which is looking like it will have to do after a refurb. My question is

1 head has a bracket at the cam pulley end of cam that seems to go over the 1st bearing lobe with a bolt holding it, the other head hasnt got this bracket type thing on at all. Iam just curious why 1 has and 1 hasnt, i could get a pic up tomorrow. Thanks

Its to locate the camshaft side to side, later heads/cams did away with this in favour of a shoulder.

you could always use the original head with a vernier pulley for a decent bump in compression.

Thanks for reply, the head that doesnt have the bracket on ( later one i guess) i want the cam from it and put it into the head that does have the cam holding bracket thing seperate from the 1st carrier cap. will this be ok.Hope that makes sense.
