Fuel Pump? Anyone In West Sussex Help Start My Car?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'll keep it short! Bacily I cant get my 1989 1.6 Gti started, Im not sure if its the aftermarket immobliser, fuel realy or fuel pump or anything else it maybe??

It turns over but wont fire, Im bit of a novice at all this repair stuff and would love if someone local who's knows a little could pop round and take a look, Im near Arundel in west sussex, I can pay in ££'s or beer (Got our own pub!)

Thanks Stuart

I'd do the basic things first like checking if its got a spark and or fuel.

Remove a HT lead and put a spark plug in (old spare maybe?) and sit it with the electrode close to a bolt on the engine. If there is a spark between the 2 that would lead me to believe its not the immobiliser.

Undo a fuel line and see if anything comes outwhen cranking, If fuel comes out then its probably not that.

That should at least narrow it down for you.

invest in a haines manual and it will give some checks to do starting with the basics.

Don't panic Stu, it's something simple as I've been telling you! As said before, check spark and fuel. That'll give us a clue and I'll pop over in the new year with some bits and bobs. Use the time to get the bodywork sorted instead!
