406 V6 Estate

Recommended Posts

floodys

We currently have a 306 hdi estate and I fancy something a bit bigger to pull the track car on it's trailer, 406 hdi's are higher mileage and not that high spec, I had a quick look at the v6 petrol models and they are cheaper, lower mileage, higher spec and cheaper on INS ( quick quote) just wanted to know if anyone has/ had one, what the engines are like, mpg etc etc??

Don't buy a D9 version, other than that bullet proof and will outlast any Derv, MPG's good as I average 25 on mine

From around 1999/Facelift is the cross over, it's the more powerfull engine version, but you do get the odd face lift model with the D8 engine in them, very rare thou

i.e don't buy one that Looks like Carl's one, buy one that looks like Miles's one

main distinguishing changes are the grille/headlamps.

I've got a D9 now I'm afraid, It will be good one I ditch 2 of the Cats, Replace the engine (Due to normal Cam carrier leak) and replace the DMF, Oh yes the std brakes are cr*p, so you need larger wheels and Brembo's without fail

I have one, its the later one! D9 manual estate 2000 W-reg so just avoids the higher car tax. nothing wrong with it, done 129k miles FSH! better than a boring HDi and is funny upsetting boy racers! lol!

Does 35mpg on a good run! does 27mpg around backroads etc, can get it down to 22mpg if you thrash it!

does 24mpg with my Brain James race shuttle in tow with 306 race car inside!

As Miles says they do need better brakes! Got Brembos off a coupe for mine,
