Wiring now all but done, just a couple of silly things to sort like buy a horn, and some sidelight holders and plugs.

The small battery should be here tomorrow then a few more checks.

Rolled out and given a bit of a wipe over

I've scaled and checked the calibration of my temp sensors ready for mapping so hopefully that's everything now all sorted for Monday?

The trailer should be here Sunday evening so I can get it loaded in advance.

Here's hoping it doesn't go bang or have problems........

Let us know how you get on - hopefully all goes well and the result is what you're looking forward to after all the hard graft getting this far :)

A real shakey start, with a good end result, left with a couple of minor niggles to sort (idle stop, and return spring issues)

125bhp @ the wheels

Don't know if this is good bad or indifferent?

As is always the case with rollers its only a guide!

It proper shifts though, John couldn't have been more helpful though and I would recommend him to anyone.

I notice you've no belt cover fitted, I'd strongly recommend one, only takes another car to run wide and then scatter gravel onto the circuit and you could be unlucky.

I've heard a few good things about John Sleath which is handy as he is reasonably local to myself.

That was one of the issues, we had to check the timing, its in the boot..........

thats not a bad figure at all. I seem to recall Spikey Steve (who then sold his setup to SteveW) made around 144bhp with the same bodies/ecu / engine setup. be interesting to see how your engine compares if it ever meets the same rollers they used.

Torque curve looks good with a nice wide powerband, although IF accurate (and that's a huge if given that there's a rolling road involved) then 125hp wheels / 155hp flywheel does sound distinctly on the low side.

You can't really compare different rolling roads, but similar setups (GTi-6 with standard cams on 'bodies) seem to get around 175-185 at the flywheel from what I've seen on Dyno Dyanamics rolling roads.

It's slightly academic getting hung up on the numbers when the most important question is - how does it drive and perform on the road?

I agree,

There was no more to give, respect to John he tried all his usual tricks and everything is optimised as far as it can with my current mechanical setup ie. pistons/cams.

Hows it perform? after a very very brief blat it would be fare to say it goes like stink.

Only a day at Cadwell will give me a true indication...

Had a play with the laser gear tonight and go my beastie aligned.

As a starting point

Front camber -2.25deg

Front toe 0.0

Rear camber -1.5deg

Rear toe 10 minutes total toe out (should be fun.......) (zx rear arms)

We will see how it fares?

Cadwell booked for the 1st Feb for its first shakedown!

Well what a great day at Cadwell today, pretty much made by the fact that the weather was wonderful, bloody freezing but sunny.

I wasn't hoping for much given it was my first shakedown on a freshly built car!

It didn't start well bloody misfire upon getting it off the trailer......Arghhh. I checked as much as I could but it wouldn't clear, It would never pass a noise test given it was sounding like I was running full bore anti lag!

All I can put it down to is fouled plugs, I never had any spares with me so I did the next best thing went out the way near the gate to clear it out.

This only partially worked, with heart in mouth I went through noise testing, 93db at about 4000rpm the problem was the massive bangs but luckily it behave just long enough. hahaha.

Once on track the misfire just faded away, again indicating fouled plugs. It pulled real strong all day and never missed a beat, I have a bit of a cooling issue where over time I'm getting an over temp warning from my ecu. I think this is partly due to missing some ducting around the rad and partly an old tired rad, both easily addressed.

As far as I can tell my researched GEO settings where pretty good handling was on the "sharp" side of comfortable

But I'm sure I will feel at home as soon as I get more seat time, I have had a couple of years off eek. The last thing you want is understeer right. hahaha.

Just before lunch I had a massive scare, I was following a 182 Clio on park straight about 6 car lengths back when its gearbox went. He did a great job of getting it off track but when it went all the crap came out the back.......... I received a good size dent in my bonnet but it could have been sooooo much worse, I feel lucky the part as big as my fist missed the windscreen

Not long after that my day was cut short as I had a knock from my front strut, upon investigation I found a sleeve nut had broken on the passenger side top mount. Hopefully I'll be able to get the alloy parts machined to fit a bigger bearing this will enable me to make some sleeve nuts with much more meat on them.

My mate let me out in his stripped E46 M3. (he's trying to make me get one)

My first impressions are all good, fast, stable and great power, But boy its a big old beast.

Massive fun though

3 Wheelin.....

I've had misfire issues on mine on start up. Had the vary same problem at Oulton it only running on 2/3 but it soon cleared, I put it down to fouled plugs and need to get a new set.

Car looks good!

Oh and I'd think about rubber mounting the DTA to avoid vibrations.
