Alot of new cars have a can of tyre weld in the back, no jack etc.

I know, its absolutely useless for a blowout though, within seconds of pulling in the tyre was made of tassles! My point is that the flatbed driver said lots of new cars dont have tyres, they don't want you to be able to do anything without bringing in a 'professional'.

Hum, can't seem to edit the post, so this is more like what I should have written:

Its a company car - I'm not sure he knew it didn't have a spare until after it happened.

Fair do's. As I said - apologies for my origional post as it was a bit harsh.

Total pain in the arse though and if I had the choice in which company car I had (which actually I do) it would put me off having one with no spare. Especially as I have kids - there is NO way I'd be prepared to be stranded with them waiting for the AA just because I had no spare.

I see your point and I know that on the new pug 207's came with just the foam kit for a while. I see they have changed back to a spare wheel, jack etc. But when you think about it [and I don't want to sound sexist here] most women wouldn't want to be faced with having to change a flat wheel at the side of the road with traffic buzzing by, and would prefer someone to do it for them which ends up in a call out anyway. I know my mum wouldn't be confident at it and would ring me 1st. Also the fact that even I can sometimes find it hard to slacken the wheel nuts with the small brace supplied and then get it tightened correctly. You just have to check your tyre pressures weekly as some of them low profile ones can be hard to spot as being flat until too late.

But then even if you have a spare, you can still call out if you want to. A can of foam is something you can buy yourself, its a tenner, a spare wheel, brace, jack...costs a lot more is a more unreasonable 'optional extra' if you ask me.

I was just surprised how useless the whole situation became.

The BMW dealer near me charges £125 per hour labour, ouch!

But people like us though have it good in a way though really, knowing what we know about cars. I mean simple stuff you try yourself, you shop around for the best price on parts and use decent non franchished garages or specilliasts for work you can't do yourself. Compare that to all those people in the world who go into the main dealer for everything, even a screen wash top up. The dealers must make a fortune from people like that!
