My Poor Car...

Recommended Posts

SebRad

Well about 2 weeks ago I was 1/2 mile from home on way to work at 7:15 and stopped in queue of traffic minding my own business and... wham!

A white van coming down the road decided not to use his brakes to stop but the back of the Vectra behind me. Of course the Vectra got shunted in to me, with reasonable force no less.

The ambulance came and checked out the van driver as he had laboured breathing, turned out to be winded and asmatic so no real harm done.

And the police came and we stood on the side of the road in -2°C for over an hour before they let us go, fortunately able to drive the 1/2 mile back home and then catch the bus to work after talking to my insurance company.

Well I've now had a chance to view the damage more closely and take some camera (rather than camera phone) pics.

It's very repairable and I know a man who can :-)

I've also come to a settlement with the 3rd party insurance company, without them even seeing the car!

They're giving me, I think, a reasonable settlement and I keep the salvage and it's not going to be on any databases as written off.

I've found a boot lid on eBay, guy wants £60 delivered, is that reasonable?

All Car Parts appear to have a new rear bumper with red strip for £45 delivered so may well go with that.

Still need a rear valance with lights etc and also plastic moulding for drivers door from where it was damaged when I bought the car.

Hopefully won't end up out of pocket and will get it repaired, including the drivers door, and re-sprayed all round.

Will be good but not sure it's really worth all the hassle, but That's Life!

Regards, Seb

How can you have a settlement and the car not recorded? sounds dodgy to me!

Don't get me started on White van men rear ending people!! Damage doesn't look too bad, not as bad as mine was which was almost a right off.

My old favourite, "self repair"

£60 delivered for a boot lid doesn't seem exsessive - and there's not always a great deal of choice with CTi panels

Cheers guys, gone for the offer on the boot lid and think I've now got / getting all the needed parts.

Know it could have been much worse if hadn't been so square on, shouldn't be a problem to jack it back to shape and get it all fixed.

The rear bumper needed replacing anyway!

Also got the cheque from the insurance in post today :)

Now need to get it all together and get my tame repairer to actually do it.

One of those where the price will be right and the time scale vague...

Could be worse as my sister's gone off for few months so I've borrowed her Yarris.

Its quite nice and the gearing is very similar to the CTI but the throttle response is a little difference, it's only 1L engine.

Still on some of the roads last few days I've been able to get wheel spin in 3rd, guess it's quite slippery <_<

Thanks, Seb
