207 Problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a small problem. My 207 1.4 diesel is giving me an error message when I start up the car.

The display reads "A-bag / s-belt fault". Ive found some info on the net, and it has been sorted by disconnecting the plugs under the seats are reconnecting them, as they can get knocked and become loose.

The haynes manual says these are for the side airbags, which would tie in with the error message. Haynes also says the battery should be disconnected for atleast 2 mins, before doing anything to do with the airbag system. Would this make it safe to disconnect the plugs? Obviously I dont want to fiddle with anything that could harm myself.

Or do any of you guys have any ideas on what the problem might be?

Cheers, Dean

yup, disconnect the battery and leave it for a while, then check the connections, dont know about the 207 but on the 306 is was common to delete the connectors and solder the wires together.

Your diagnosis seems sound, but I'd be interested to know if this disconnecting etc works on a modern ECU. It should have a section of Non-Volatile Memory which shouldn't be corrupted on an extended power down*. Bad news for you, of course as you'd need a diagnostic tester to clear the code.

This is purely a professional interest and I can see it doesn't help you in anyway!

*this does also depend on the priority Pug asign this particular DTC, it may not get a cosy home in NVM

I think disconnecting the battery is purely for safety and doesnt have anything to do with resetting the ECU due to it being related to the airbag system.

I havent had chance to look at it yet, just got back home! Will let you know how I get on!

ECU will control the airbags as with most other cars. If nothing happens after just unplugging then plugging in the connectors then definitely disconnect the battery five minutes to see if that clears the error.

If your car is a 3 door 207 the most common problem with them is where the seat hinges when it tilts forward the loom for the side airbag rubs against the seat frame causing a short.

If you look at the outer hindge point (nearest the door) and check the wiring.

The connections under the seat are a lot better than the ones fitted to 306, 307,s etc but you still get one or two faulty.

Well, yesturday I checked all the connections under the seats, and inspected the wires, and put it all back together, but I'm still getting the same warning message.

Anyone have any ideas?
