Blxxdy Hate Ford Ka Heaters

Recommended Posts

Ok I recently replaced the heater control valve on my daughter rust bucket disguised in purple paint. This does not seem to have made ablind bit of difference to the heat inside the car, varies between cold and more.... ... cold. Swapped the inlet pipes over today as thought they maybe on the wrong way round, made no difference. Could someone conform the correct way these are supposed to be mounted? I have taken there thermostat out and this appears to open and close below boiling temp. It is as if the valve is not opening or the matrix is blocked. I do not want to take the matrix out so is there an easy way to test it? Should I check anything else? Sorry for this post being a bit hap hazzard in its layout but had a few beers. :D:D

Also what does the red button do hidden behind the carpet in the kick pannel (drivers side) as like a child I could not resist and push it.

take both pipes off and stick a hose pipe on one, that'll give an idea if its blocked or not.

red button is the inertia switch, at least you know where it is now :D

isn't it a simple butterfly in a pipe kinda valve, should be able to see if its working if so, if possible try fitting the pipes directly.

The pattern valves are s*ite. At the moment I would be tempted to get two hose joiners and link it through, to give you some hot water to the heater in this weather. Then worry about making it work right in the summer/never*

i think that might be jumping to conclusions, are the pipes getting hot? Have you purged the system of air?

Well filled it up and gave the radiator top hose a good squeeze. Does this count? Also again which is the correct way round for the pipes?

Also what does the interia switch do?

Thanks

Leave the expansion cap off and run the engine upto temp with the heating on full wack and rev it a few times and watch for air bubbles rising out of the tank, give the radiator hoses a good sqeeze left side / right side aternating about a dozen times, which should get rid of alot of trapped air. Then replace the cap when you no longer see bubbles.

Touch the radiator, is it getting warm all over? are the cooling hoses getting hot either side of the radiator?

Just to establish if there is circulation, if they are hot then you can go back to the matrix.

Touch the hose going into the control valve if one is hot then that the inlet and it should be on the left (I think). The only way to establish is it the the Valve is faulty is to bypass it with a couple of hose joiners available from halford gubbin section (cheap) and if you still have no hot air its the matrix blocked. If you have hot air iafter bypassing you need a new valve.

Interia switch cuts fuel pump in a accident.

Please bear in mind my experience with this engine was in a MK4 escort!
