Late Cti Rack Turns To Lock Question?

Recommended Posts

Henry Yorke

I noticed at Curborough that my non pas 1993 CTI rack seemed very quick when compared to Tom Fentons standard rack in his 1989 1.6 GTI. I know the PAS rack is meant to be quicker than the non PAS, but I sort of seem to recall that later non PAS cars had a quicker rack too, but can't find any evidence to support that. I've not gone and measured the turns on my CTi as it is in the garage with the front wheels on some metal ramps, but does anyone else know what racks there are and when they were applied as standard?

Tom Fenton

Oi, 1990 if you don't mind....

TBH Henry you'd be better just turning it lock to lock and measuring how many turns.

Hi, I've just been checking out my CTI. Sept '92 K plate 1.9 and as far as I know pretty much original.

My best estimate of the rack is 3.6 turns lock to lock, if it helps.

Regards, Seb

Henry, have you made sure the rack is set centrally? If not you could be getting a 'skewed' steering reaction.
