Mi-16 Camshaft Pulleys + Valve Spring Tool

Recommended Posts

rallysteve

At some point soon i will no doubt get the money together to start work on my 205 project again, I have started to strip down the cylinder head and have noticed both pulleys (marked wrongly for I and E!) but both are number 2 pulleys, i thought one should be number 4, can anyone clear this up. Could damage have been done from using the wrong ones?

I am also looking for a valve spring compressor tool to fully strip down my head, can anyone recommend one thats suitable for removing the valves from the 16v head. Dont want to spend a fortune as I will probably not need to use it much.

The head is a 1.9 D6C one

Cheers Steve

Earlier engines have two #2 pulleys, Mi16x4 (and later?) engines have #4 inlet and #2 exhaust (and CAT engines are #3 inlet and #2 exhaust)

Basically, #4 inlet advances the cam slightly, giving more mid-range at the expense of a little top-end which some people prefer.

You'll need a large deep-reach valve spring compressor for an Mi16 head, as most "normal" ones aren't deep enough and won't fit.

Excellent thank you, just what i needed to know!

What do people recommend for the inlet pulley from experience? The car will be mostly trackday/hillclimb eventually with very little road use.

Thanks Steve

No. 4. That's why it changed.

If 2 gives more top end then it would make more sense for track, I always intended to compare each pulley but never got round to changing.
