Warranty Issue Opinions Needed.

Wife's (2008) 207s windscreen washers stopped working and when in for a service the service receptionists told the wife and I, in separate conversations, that the pipe had been chewed by a mouse and had been damaged by too high a concentration of washer additive (I'm pretty careful about this but on account of paintwork).

It's a fiddly job requiring the removal (and likely fiddly refitting) of the inner-wing protector and they quoted £88 so I'm inclined to push for it to be done under warranty. Am I being unreasonable?

think you have 2 issues here

if a mouse has damaged it then its not a warranty claim

but i cant see how windscreen washer fluid would damage the pipe

think you need to look at the pipe and see what the damage is.

also you need to check the terms of the warranty to what is covered.

You wont get that covered, especially as its Peugeot

But the service manager will be pushed to claim for a pipe under warranty in any situation let alone with chew marks in it

If they put it through and Peugeot ask for the displaced part they will loose money on it

If i was the service manager i wouldnt do it unless i had a very plausible excuse to replace the part for a reason other than it being chewed

:-(

If it costs £88 to remove and refit the inner wing protector to get at the tube, then I'm guessing they've not done this yet. So if they are adament that the pipe is damaged (whether it be by a mouse or not) then I would assume that they can actually see the damage. If they can see the damaged part, and it's not hidden away under the wing protector, then a cheap fix would be to cut the pipe before the damage and fit some new pipe from that point on, joining them with the correct hose joiners. Would cost a few quid for a metre or so of new pipe and a joiner.

They wont do that at a main stealer because it leaves them open to further claims against the car, effectively their hands are tied and they will have to do it properly or you would sign a disclaimer against future problems because of the known bodged repair

Personally i would be going along the lines of:

The car is not touched between services as its under warranty so the pipe must have been damaged either by poor routing from factory or it has been disturbed at some other point when its been into the dealer

Too much screen wash corroding the pipe is bollocks and if needed you will have the screen wash tested independently AND in any case means the pipe is not fit for purpose if it isn't able to cope with screen wash concentrations of 100% as in sweden they run 100% concentration and the car is sold all over the world

:(:P

Tell them they are talking complete bollocks.

Ask to speak to the service manager and the mechanic in question.

£88 to remove the inner wing protector? :)

Having recently pulled a 206 to pieces, I cannot believe they want 'that' much to remove 3 plastic clips and a torx screw?

The washer fluid arguement is balls, the mouse one isn't. Your warranty won't cover rodent attacks if that is what has caused the damage.

As Welshpug says, it sounds like an hours worth of labour, which given they have already done the investigative part and now have to replace it actually sounds quite reasonable.

You could always do it yourself, if you use genuine parts (or ones of equivalent quality) it will not invalidate your warranty.

the part required is a Fiver's worth of washer hose (from a dealer)

Just so I have this right in my head:

A random mouse decided to randomly chew on your screen washer pipe, rather than chew on anything else in the car/around the car/in the bins?

Have you seen this damage with your own eyes?
