Mi16 Bike Carbs

Recommended Posts

Basset

Hi, I'm looking at putting bike carbs on my mi16 when i put it in my 205, probably R1 carbs? the engines rebuilt but standard, I'm prob going to just use the old 1.9 distributor for the ignition for cost reasons at the moment. I was wondering if anyone has done this conversion and has some proven power figures? Also whats the drivability like? I decided to leave the engine internals alone as Lightening and balancing and a set of cams will just shift all the power up the rev range, also i'll still probably still use it for commuting to work.

So besides sounding awesome are there good gains from fitting bike carbs? Any info/advice would be very appreciated.

Cheers

Rob

Do some searching on here and read up....please.

Covered many, many times, and the answer's roughly always the same. Do it properly with throttle bodies, an aftermarket ECU, a decent inlet manifold and get it all mapped by someone who really knows the ECU and what they're doing.

Cheap efforts, with bike carbs and half-arsed manifolds using silicon joiners really just aren't worth the hassle.

Yes, it can work; but do some searching and reading on here (that's what 'search' is for) and you'll find out why I've said the above.

I did have 40mm bike carbs in mine with a dizzy.

I made approx 130 bhp atw on mine, that was with a phase 1 exhaust and a dizzy.

This equates to approx 165bhp which wasn't too bad I thought the sound was superb though.

I'm now on the search for throttle bodies and managment though.

...well there ya go Basset, Buy these!

I agree that "search is your freind" but the idea of a forum is to get on and ask questions. It's always good to talk to others, even if we have all answered the same question a hundred times (as we all have).

With all due respect - If you get sick of answering the same questions time and time again, well maybe it's time to move on to another hobby. There will ALWAYS be the newbie or the "unsure" wanting to learn about thier pride and joy - just like WE ALL DID when we started!

Regards

Moo

I don't mind answering questions, but there is nothing wrong with pointing out that there is a perfectly good search function on the forum.

Especially when it says in the forum rules to use that before posting a question.

I wouldn't say perfectly good when you need to search in order to learn how to use it, kind of a vicious circle. I find the best way is google-ing: "what i'm looking for site:forum.205gtidrivers.com". The search function on its own is not that good.

I had an Mi16 to which I fitted R1 bike carbs simply because I bought the engine without any management (really rare engines around where I live) and it was great. Sound is out of this world, throttle response amazing, but you need to do it properly if you want it to be any good and it's by no means a budget option. I do not recommend you go ahead with this considering what you're using the car for.

Out of interest, why do you say this ? I have a GTi6 on bike bodies, setup and supplied by Colin Satchell and Sandy Brown and I too use it for commuting to work. Nothing wrong with it and it gives me a smile (noise - awesome  ) as I drive off to the "joy" of work.

OMG - I must have been having a really blind (or stupid) day that day. I see the title says "Bike CARBS" but for some reason my brain thought it said "Bike BODIES". I'm going insane I tell you..... <_<

Please ignore my post above, as obviously its incorrect now my mistake has been pointed out. Apologies.
