Previous Owner A Bodger!

Recommended Posts

blniasgti

Had the pleasure of the clutch going on me last thursday and set about replacing it yesterday only to find the previous owner was a complete bodger, not only was there only 2 yes 2 :D bolts holding the gearbox to the engine but i now need to completely strip the engine of all pipework and electrics to replace almost every hose and connector.....

My Findings.....

The clutch friction ring pad had been completely ripped from the centre section of the clutch.... but it looks nearly new and only down to the none existant bolts meant to hold the clutch in place....

Only 2 bolts holding the clutch to the flywheel.... done up finger tight !!!!!

Only 2 Bolts holding the Gearbox to the Engine, ones either side of the starter.........

All the oil hoses must have been cut off and when replaced they realised they wouldnt fit so they cut them in half then joined them using bits of plastic and zippy ties.....

Both rear water hoses have been cut numerous times and joined to make them reach.....

And all electric plastic connectors have what look like being put on with a pair of vice grips and are squashed to hell....

This is what i can be bothered to write about as its making my blood boil just writing about it now......

I leave this topic by saying PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT BOTHER TO EVEN ATTEMPT IT IF YOU DONT HAVE THE APTITUDE TO DO IT CORRECTLY !!!!!!!

As you can tell im very very pi**ed off about this as i not only havent got the time to do this i had a buyer offer me what i wanted for the car now he has pull out due to this and i DONT blame him as i would !!!!

Thought the title was "previous owner a badger" at first glance, was very interested. Sorry to hear of your woes.

Your tale of woe unfortuntately sounds all too familiar - it beggars belief as to how some people consider the "repairs" they've done as upto scratch :D

The gearbox to engine bolts tend to undo themselves so that alone wouldn't suggest it had been bodged. The missing clutch bolts certainly do though.

Yeah that was what i thought untill i went to undo the clutch and looked over the rest of the engine.

In fairness to the previous owner this suggests to me a backstreet engine replacement with "make sense to fit a new clutch while it's out,Squire!" thrown in. Some poor bugger probably paid out good money to get their pride and joy trashed.
