What do you think might be different about the two?

That's not supposed to be an arsehole reply, but rather than give you a simple yes or no, have a think about it for a second :)

Do i understand i thought the gti might be a bit narrower than the gr coz its 4 door. But im guessing it would fit!!!

In fact , there is "a difference" :) .. not the bootlid itself but the bootlid hinges - Ph1 has one hole mount hinges , while Ph2 has two (for the bolts ..) .. so , make sure you take the bootlid along with the hinges .. in order to save yourself a bother of drilling if you end up with Ph1/Ph2 mix ...

Damir :D

Excellent point Damir :) And I'm ashamed that I didn't think of that when trying to encourage TheHawk to think about it, since I've been there myself. On my old Ph2 GTI the bootlid had 2 bolts per hinge, and I then picked up a replacement boot that turned out to only have 1 bolt per hinge. But interestingly, the hinge had slightly indented markings on it corresponding to the 2 holes on the later bootlid. I drilled new holes (slightly oversized to allow some adjustment) and all was well again.

You've come to the right place :D

Forgive me if my original post came across as patronising. Sometimes it's better to encourage a little bit of lateral thinking rather than spoon feeding a simple answer.
