Why Did It Destroy The Cv?

Recommended Posts

Putting the final touches to the GTi6 today. Overnight the suspension had been off the passenger side to change the springs.

Went to refit the shaft to the hub and there is a noise like it's pushing air out of the joint. I wrestle with the shaft and finally get it into place.

All the other little jobs done I try to drive out the garage, nothing.

I look underneath and it's destroyed the CV boot. I guess the shaft has come apart as it wouldn't go in as easy as it normally does (passenger side) and then it's just destroyed itself.

How will I know if I need to change the shaft? I've got a boot kit but I've no idea how to fit one B) Why would this happen? Has the shaft split or something?

Make sure your gearbox bolts and gearbox mount nuts are tight. This happened to my brother's 106 once, wrecked two driveshafts before I realised what it was!
