Gti6 + Itb Mpg

Out of interest, what kind of MPG are other 205 GTi6 users getting with what setup?

I have a 205 GTi6 with ITBs on DTA management. Just checked the MPG on the last fill up and it was about 28-29mpg. This is just on the daily driving to and from work using Shell V-Power.

I'd guess thats quite good for daily driving, but it got me interested to see what other 205 GTi6 owners are getting. :(

EDIT: forgot to say its on a standard 1993 1.9 gearbox setup.

Mine isn't looking good :(

I will be filling up tonight after its first full tank, think its pnly on 230ish (suppose I am still loving the acceleration of the lower gears this its drinking right now)

Mine was over 250 miles to 40 litres. But I suspect that might be out a little (for the good) as I normally fill up at a Shell station on a hill (floor is slanted, nose points uphill), thus it "clicks" earlier. But the time when I recorded the above 28-29mpg was when I filled up at a flat ground based petrol station.

As you said, the acceleration of a 205 GTi6 is so addictive. I can help but floor it every now and then as it sounds awesome (ITBs) and it goes very well. :(

p.s. I should point out I'm not bothered too much about its MPG as I enjoy the car, just more merely checking its running fine and not overfuelling.

I just do the old miles ÷ ltrs x 5 = mpg

Its not overly accurate but its close enough for me

If mapped well it should be better than that! Not a 6 i know but my Mi on bodies will do 300+ miles to a tank fairly easily, and the old Miami one was even better despite the map not being ideal and it running rich!

My standard 205 GTI6 wouldn't get much more than 18mpg unless on a run when it would rise to 26mpg at a steady 85/90 on the clocks. As it was only used as a weekend toy it spent most of the time in the lower gears at around 5k+ rpm so hardly conducive to economical driving.

What would be more interesting is asking what people are getting on track days.

I tend to get around 250-300 miles to a tank whatever that is to the gallon??

On track days, it's quite thirsty but never really kept a note on the mileage. I tend to use around 100 litres of fuel but do over 200 miles regularly.

I get bloody 30mpg from my standard 1.6!

There really is no excuse not to have a XU10 under the bonnet...

Except from the fact that they're crap? ;):P:D

I usually get around 350miles to a tank in my 1.6.

GTI6 generally thirstier than Mi16 modified or not in my expereince. Standard 306 GTI6 is terrible on fuel for a small hatch, especially compared to Clio 172/182.

CaptainK's has cams too, which do impact economy noticeably. 29mpg is what I would expect for mixed driving with regular hoofage, but other cars I've mapped with similar spec, are generally around 33-35mpg overall if driven gently. Grunting it for the noise will pull that down, especially around town.

All Praise The GTI

i was just going to search for this info and found this topic :D

im using my 6 on satchell bodies petert inlet regrind and emerald daily at the mo as hdi is stil dead. just got about 240 from a full tank and ive not gone over 3.5k as trying save fuel!!! :P

stil not convinced its mapped properly and this reinforces it aswell as it only making 182bhp. think the cam needs timing properly and a proper remap ;)

My 1.8 non turbo derv will do about 50-60mpg as I drive it like a pensioner ;)

Although when I finish the GTI6 conversion it will be about the same as I used to get from the old TU, 30ish!

I was about to post something similar - I don't know what it is about a GTi-6, but certainly standard ones are pretty poor on fuel in my experience. Not quite sure why, as on paper it should be fine - ports that flow well, mild cams, plenty of compression (10.8:1 IIRC) and modern engine management - and yet I struggle to get much north of 30mpg average in one despite routinely getting 35mpg or more out of a 8v (on Jetronic/dizzy) or Mi16 ;)

Right on the money there. I get 55mpg running to work and back from my NA derv.

Daren't work out what the Gti6 does though ;)

'Only' 182bhp? Forgive my ignorance but assuming yours is a standard '6 on bodies and Emerald, why are you expecting much more?

That figure certainly wouldn't be a reason to me for it being poorly mapped.

250-300 isn't miles off i would say.

Anthony's old 306 GTi6 on emerald and bodies was aweful on fuel (Rather close to my T16 306 but that had booooooooost) which wasn't that quick. But a lot can depend on old worn sensors, mapping and timing. So if its way off this rough figure, something is wrong.

Baz, whats with the sig?

Sandy, do you think it'd be worth bringing it back to you sometime to check it over ? IIRC correctly ages ago you did say something about bringing it back to be checked after it'd done a few hundred miles, but then I couldn't drive it and I forgot  Dunno when I'd get time to bring it back to you though really :?

Overall I'm very pleased with it and I can't complain about the MPG - its no worse than when it was a standard 1.9 or when it had a standard GTi6 engine in it, but yet it has tons more power for the same MPG. Really ought to do a MPG check over a long run sometime to see what it does. 8)

To be honest, unless you're constantly driving it like you stole it, low-mid 30's to the gallon should be easily achieveable in either a 1.6 or 1.9 GTi - providing of course that they're properly setup and everything is in fine fettle. Most, sadly, aren't - hence most seems to assume that all 8v's have a poor idle, poor fuel economy, and are unreliable...

When I took my standard 1.6 GTI to France a few years ago I got nearly 40mpg a couple of times on long runs down the autoroute.
