Engine Rebuild Questions

Recommended Posts

unariciflocos

I'm starting my first engine rebuild. I have two Mi16s with spun shells and I want to make one good engine out of them.

I have one Mi crank, with just the part with the spun shell has been reground. So one is 0.3 and the others are standard. The guy from the machine shop refused to regrind the others because he said he refuses to ruin a perfectly good crank. Will this work or should I take it some other place and get the rest done as well?

One of the engines was freshly rebuild. Could I use the piston rings and liners from that one or should I get new piston rings? (this may be a stupid question but at 90 quid a set of piston rings i might as well ask)

When I got the pistons in a vice to get the pins out, it flattened the sides a bit, i had to get a small file in the piston ring gaps to get the rings moving freely again. Are these pistons compromised or will they work just fine? Oh, and one piston had a slightly chipped skirt, barely noticeable.

And last, regarding bearings I have a chice of 3 manufacturers: Glyco, NPR, King, Kolbenschmidt and for piston rings: Goetze, NPR, Tarabusi. Does anyone have experience with any of these? Any votes for or against a particular brand?

Thanks,

Andrei
