Peugeot Sport 6spd Close Ratio Box

Recommended Posts

Bally

I have been offered a Peugeot Sport 6 speed close ratio box but the car is not driving so I can see if the ratios would be what I want. I also cant find any info on the net or on the peugeot sport website. Does anyone have any info on this box, ratios etc. This one has the zf diff and carries different axles.

I guess it's from an ex-BTCC Bowman / Longman 306.

two of them came to china / hong kong to race for 2 seasons. iirc they were very quick but unfortunately the reliability was far behind the honda with K20a engine.

I don't know the ratios but if I recall properly there were only 2 final drive ratios with the 6 speed - but my memory is hazey, can anyone confirm? I looked in the old Peugeot rally club build book but it doesn't detail the box I'm afraid

There are quite a few gear ratios referred to for the 306 Maxi in the FIA homologation papers (A-5510) for both 5 and 6 speed boxes for the 306 S16 / Maxi, though there are 150+ pages to sift through. It is in the PSOOC members area though here http://psooc.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=86, but you need to be a member to download. from other info in there, I think the Maxi ran a XTrac 6-speed

sequential box

Maxi as in the rallying Maxi ran a 7 speed sequential I believe!

Depends on the evolution. The docs on the PSOOC are from 1994 / 5 so the first ones. I think they went up to at least Evo2 so there would have been a whole variety of boxes available.

I dont know if it will help but there is a guy on gti6.com (maybe on here too) called bigbadbowen who had a 6 speed close ratio box on his Mi engined 306, it was a Peugeot sport boutique box iirc.

It could be worth getting hold of him to see if he would know anything about this one

Okay Just took the box out the car . Definately a pts diff cause of the axles and the way the final drive bolts on. The final drive is a 5.230.

Have to pull down and see what the ratios are now.

This box originally came off a 306 with a longman engine that i saw arrive in a crate with dyno spec sheet. I will get a copy of the sheet but I am sure it was over 300hp.

But here what engine it was on now.

It was on a T16 with the turbo that had the variable vane controlled by the ecu and the boost is also controlled by the ecu. The head has extra oil returns drilled on the sides that go back to the block. And there are two ecus in the car.The one plugged in read 360hp octane 103.

The second one reads 490hp octane c16.

Trying to get the owner to sell me the complete lump now. Took off the manifold and inside the ports are beautifully ported and polished. Dont know who built it but know it came from England and the original owners use to deal with Longman too
