Knowing When The Valve Stem Seals Need To Be Done

Recommended Posts

I have noticed recently that im getting quite a lot of white smoke, obviously with the cold weather it could be condensation but how would I know if the valve stem seals need replacing?

Generally worn stem seals cause a puff of blue smoke on overrun, and when they get bad enough, constant blue smoke at idle.

Oil consumption will increase too, obviously, since the engine is now burning it.

White smoke could be condensation like you say or the start of head gasket failure.

My one (with a knackered head gasket) does not smoke on start up but smokes really bad when it heats up.
