New Car (take 2) - Alfa 166 Super Lusso

The E9 looks brutal, I love old BMW's, they are so much car for your money. Dislike new ones though.

Also the alfa V6 sounds just lovely!

Brutal! The 155 GTA sounds awesome though on this one http://www.streetfire.net/video/alfa-romeo-corse_574919.htm

Every man needs to own an Alfa at some point in their life. As Clarkson says, "nobody can call themselves a true petrolhead until they have owned one"

The E9 Batmobile is beautiful

Try working next to Munich Legends in Chelwood Gate. An utter dribble fest every day. Nice Zinebar red M1 in there at the moment and it's also usually packed full of road or racing E9's.

And SurGie says a lot of other stuff that's a load of twoddle as well :). Alfa = Flintstones car after rotting away due to the cheap steel :D.

(SurGie now waiting for someone to edit that at some point  ) (You asked for the edit - Henry!! :P)

Nice one Steve - looks like a decent barge

I don't see modern Alfas as being must-have mythical beasts. I ran a 156 2.0 TS from new for a few months and it was OK, but I loved my e30 325i a whole lot more.

I wouldn't say no to a tidy 75 V6, but that's the engine and drivetrain config more than anything else, an Alfasud would be fun. but a 205 does a similar thing better.

I've never driven a Guilietta or similar.

For me a big car would have to be RWD and I can't think of any small FWD car I'd want instead of the Pug.

That garage just pops of nowhere - hidden on a nice stretch of road. :)

+1 with Anthony. My old man keeps contemplating getting rid of his E30 M3's for a nice M6 or 635CSi Highline. He even bought one for spares and carefully cut the entire nose off it to mount on a wall in his house, until he realised the wall would need reinforcing in order to do it so it is now undercover down the garden!!

Classic Schnitzer ETCC one http://www.bmwe34.net/Wiki/img/wiki_up/150...5racing_10_.jpg

Don't they tend to rot quite badly on the front wings? OE replacement wings are serious money too. There was a nice 635 in Total BMW mag a while ago, with the E39 M5 lump in it :)

The obscene twin-turbo Batmobile is my favourite race-car of all time, balls of steel required to drive!

Sorry, back on topic....

Good choice on the 166 - Lovely looking thing.

I remember getting one on hire from Enterprise - No idea why they had on on the fleet. Same deal 3.0 V6 and a manual 'box.

Once it was in second it really began to sing.

Hired it for £23/day. Got on well with the manager, and it was cheap as the sunvisor was broken on the driver side. I took it home and switched the passenger one over. Meant it had the mirror to the wrong side, but I didn't care.

Took my mates out in it, and it was a great laugh, and a mega barge way. It was no BMW, but it makes up for that in it's character.

Hope you enjoy it! (for much more than 6 days!!)

Brian

Woooooohooooooooo :) Made it to the 1 week mark and not crashed this one :D

That's the good news.

The bad news is that earlier in the week it car got leaked on in the underground car park at home, and it looks like the water had concrete dust in it. So I've got the same problem that Veero had recently (this topic). I've got about 5 patches on the car where it's damaged the lacquer. Managed to fix the worst of some of them after a thorough wash, clay bar, then polish. But there's a nasty line right the way down the drivers door that I can't shift. It needs a proper machine polish.

Still, having spent a good few hours cleaning and waxing it, I'm bloody surprised at how good the bodywork is for a 12 year old car. There's only about 3 tiny dents on the whole thing, and whilst there are some stone chips and scratches it's nothing for the age, size of car, and for somethig that probably spent most of it's life on the motorway. It does need a total going over by a professional though, as it's swirled to f*** and the paint feels really rough (even the glass does too!) so I doubt it's seen much polish or wax over the last few years.
