Xu 8valve Cam Options

Recommended Posts

RP1983

Hi everyone,

Could someone be so kind as to tell me if I have the following correct, I have had a good search but would like 100% confirmation.

A 1900cc Gti cam out of a non cat engine will be a slight upgrade over a 2.0 Xsi cam? (In a 2.0 Xsi motor)

A late 1600cc Gti cam is the same as a 1900cc cam?

If this is correct then does anyone know which cam pulley I should use, the Xu5/9 or the Xu10 one?

Any advice/info as always will be greatly appreciated.

Im pretty sure in saying the late (115BHP, as opposed to the early 105 BHP) 1.6 gti cam is the same as all non cat 1.9 gti cams (in fact i think the whole head was the same)

I thought the Xsi motor was a 16v?

Matt

no the 1.6 cam was always different ever so marginally to a 1.9 cam.

phase 1 306 xsi is the 123 bhp 8 valve XU10.

Cheers for the replys.

Just had a thought to check service box and Welshpug is correct, they do have different part numbers. I'm glad I asked as I found a few topics that suggest they are the same.

So next question is would the 1.6 cam although different still be considered better than the 2.0 one?

Also Welshpug (or anyone else) do you know what the "marginal difference" is by any chance?

Thanks
