Xsara Vts Into 205, Questions

Recommended Posts

Dizzee stuff

I am using a complete running 1999 (V reg,old shape) xsara VTS for my conversion.

I want to try and unlock the ECU by unpluging the imobilliser (transponder type not key pad) contol unit while the engine is running. Questions:

Will this work?? Where is the location of the control unit on the car?? Will the ECU revert back to being locked when the battery is disconected??

I would like to remove the old 205 engine loom right back to the ECU plug, but it seems to disappear under the dash and over the steering column totally inaccessible even with the clocks removed. How have other people tackled this problem or do I just leave this part of the loom in ?? Thanks

You need to spend a few hours with the search function, there are many forum threads with some great photos and indepth explanations on every thing you've asked.

To help with searching use the + command before each word.

I have used the search function & found most answers to my questions, they have brought me this far, but still not found any answers to these particular questions.

To take it out whole you need to take the dash out first, if you don't want to keep the 8v loom the simplest way is to cut the wires at the ecu plug and tachy relay then just pull it all out.

unplugging the immobilser method will work, its what i did when i took the engine out the xsara. if you just follow the wires down from the ring around the steering lock you will find the control unit (think it was down by the heater if i remember correctly)

I even went as far as removing the chip from the key and starting the car to make sure it was properly unlocked before removing the engine/ecu.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. Just to make it clear to me, the ECU will remain unlocked even if the battery is disconnected???

from what i can gather, it needs a signal to lock it again. So yes it will stay unlocked.

I've had the battery off the car loads of times and its fine :)
