Mi16/bx16v Head

Recommended Posts

backroadpug

Hi all i have just fully re built a bx16v engine after my mi16 went boom.

the whole engine has been stripped and nearly every thing replaced.

ive just fitted the cams into the head and realised when i tried to fit the dizzy it does not fit the cam cut out and there is no threads for the bolt

do i just have to fit my cams out of the mi head or is there some moddification that needs carried out.

is there any difference in lifts or durations

cheers guys

Mi16 and BX16v have the same engine, I can only presume you're talking about the later 405 Mi16/S16 2.0 Engine?

No its a D6C 1905cc alloy block engine

had a look on our work computer and there is 2bhp of a difference from the d6c mi16 and the d6c bx16v

everything seems the same apart from the inlet cam end for the dizzy.

as per pic mi cam has cut out and hole for the torx bolt and the bx cam(fitted to head) just has a cut out.

They're identical engines then, shouldn't be a difference in cams at all.

well the engine came out a 205 with the dizzy adaptor running only difference is mine has the 405 loom and ECU.

So its a bit of a mistery. Also not sure why auto data states the bx is up on bhp than the mi? is there any specific numbers or letters that should be stamped on the cam shafts. ill have to remove and have a look.

Ahh!! If it's had a dizzy adaptor, one of the inlet cams may have been modified to run the dizzy as they don't usually have the slot for this.

ah so that might be the problem still tho it doesnt have the threaded hole for the bolt. do you think it would be safe enough just to chap on the dizzy bit for the arm?

cheers

No. You quite clearly have an inlet cam not meant for a 1.9 Mi16 which has the thread to screw the dizzy rotor arm foot/base to. Get an XU9J4 inlet cam and you'll be ok.

It's likely you have a 2.0 Mi16 (or S16) inlet cam or as Baz says one that's been modified.

You mustn't change your cam bearing caps (and there's no reason why you'd need to) because they are line bored to match the head. Cams can be swapped though.

Ok cheers so if I take my cams out my Mi16 head that is pitted (that is the cam on top of the BX cyl. head with the srew hole) and fit them to the BX head with the BX cam caps that should be ok.

Cheers
