Is My Ecu Locked? Gti6 Conversion.

Recommended Posts

Basically the engine is now turning but not firing.

Ive established

1. im getting fuel to the rail / pump is priming on ignition. (Ive checked the relay behind the battery box also to establish pump is priming).

2.Getting no pulse to the injectors (ive had these out while cranking). These are earthed to the vacum pump.

3.Getting no spark at the plugs.

When i do connect the battery the ECU makes a click noise so i presume i have power?

Just wanted second opinions before i have to splash out on unlocking / replacement ECU. (and advice on where to get a reputable job done)

Thanks in anticipation. Mark

Yep blue plug by cam cover.

Just been looking at the 306 forum.

Post on double relay and running a switched live between ignition and pin 14 on the relay. No joy either with that.

Im running out of ideas (been a full day at this now!!! :P )

Welshpug: my bad . didnt read your question properly.

Yes the crank sensor is plugged in and is brand new (s16 type. not using the same location as the speedo drive though). Im using another location on the BE3 box which means my speedo cable /drive is seperate to it.

that's not the crank sensor you're talking about by the sounds of it, that's the VSS (vehicle speed sensor), the crank sensor is ontop of the gearbox.

the GTI6 conversion needs the dual VSS plug which goes into the diff and houses the speedo cable as well as the VSS loom plug and you also have the Crank Position Sensor on top of the gearbox. if the CrankPosition Sensor is not present then it won't run.

As said you could be missing the crank sensor, Brown plug on the loom with a thick'ish' black round sheathed cable (3 wires inside not that you would know)

Without this the ECU will not do anything as it thinks the engine is not turning over.

The VSS is not really needed if push comes to it

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify ...

The crank sensor bolts into the top of the gearbox (on the bell housing? to pick up the motion of the fly wheel?) In which case ive bolted the VSS into this aperture!!

I have no crank sensor as far as i can see but i presume this could have been left connected to the original gearbox?

Think ive got this now.

Ive purchased a new cranksensor and bolted it into the bell housing on the top of the gear box. Ive then plugged it into the connector for the VSS!(shrouded with heatproof cover).

Its official. I am a plank!

If i swap these it should be sorted! :)

Don't plug the vss cable to the crank sensor! It still won't work!

It needs to be plugged into the proper plug for it!

Do you have the fuel cut off switch still plugged in? It should be near the ecu plug. Black with a red rubber too. Have you pressed it?

Yes Pete. i think this is what ive done!!!

Im pretty sure i have the crank sensor in the right part of the gearbox.( Top of the bell housing above the flywheel.)

BUT ive connected the shielded plug end(for the VSS) to the crank sensor itself!!!

The Fuel cut off has been removed and the ends of the connector (from the loom) have been soldered together.
