Nearly A Clean Sweep

Well I've had my 205 for a whole year now...and a bit so it was off to the MOT station this afternoon.

This morning was the turn of the drug dealer Golf GTTDI which passed with flying colours apart from an advisory on rear bushes (common problem) and some low tyre treads which was no great shakes.

So the 205 went in and I've just been to collect it with a big fat fail..boo hoo.

Everything was absolutely spot on apart from the new goodridge front brake hoses which are rubbing on the driveshafts.

I only put them on a couple of weeks back as it looked like the original ones were getting a bit shabby, oh the irony of it!!

I suppose you are all thinking "well how is this possible, surely they clip onto the body of the shock"...not mine, my GAZ Golds are from a 306 and don't have that essential tab to clip the line into.

I guess I'll have to cable tie it to something under there and hope for the best, unless one of you guys has a neat solution to the problem?

Other than that the car was in superb condition with no other advisories at all.

So it's happy days all round...well nearly!

I use a rubber lined P clip to hold the hose and attach it to the damper with a jubilee ring.

A brake line rubbing on a drive shaft seems pretty dangerous, but they surely could have zip tied them up.

Thats what I thought. They had already adjusted the headlight beam aim for me.

Not to worry, I'll sort it in the morning using some sort of skill and cunning!!

GGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR this is no longer amusing!!

I took the front wheels off this morning and assesed the situation and declared that a couple of cable ties would be more than adequate.

Back to MOT man, up on the ramps and lots of umming and ahhing about whether it would do the job and apparently it won't.

So now I find myself in the middle of an engineering project making brackets to hold the braided brakelines out of the way.

Bring on the Timgineering skills, now where did I put them!!

Its a debatable one, I had cable ties pass for three years running at various MOT centres then the fourth place decided they weren't good enough.

Just use a P clip and jubilee ring like I said above.
