Why Can't I Sell My 205?

Recommended Posts

McDude

A few months ago I put my 205 up here for sale, but immediately changed my mind so took the ad down.

Then a couple of weeks ago I re-advertised it for sale. However I didn't get round to putting it on eBay - what I mean by that is I didn't want to put it on eBay. In short - I just don't want to sell it! I don't need the money and it really is a peachy 205 and I can't imagine anything else being so much fun.

My wife knows I love it and we've just gone and got a new family wagon so it looks like I'll be staying in the 205 fold for a bit longer...

...just need to put its winter shoes on (106 rallye steels + winter tyres)

It is a lovely looking 205 from the pictures, I think 205's are at the bottom of their pricing at the moment and nice examples like yours will only increase in value. Maybe 10 years ago a Mk2 Escort could still be bought cheaply, and yet look at the prices now. I think the 205 will go the same way, as they are very noticeably becoming a rarer sight on the roads.

Well there you go then

I didn't know much about your 205 until I saw the recent FS topic, and IMO you should defo hold on to it it there's nothing actually driving you to sell it. It looks in remarkably good condition, it looks virtually standard, and you've gone the extra mile by keeping it maintained with the best of parts. That car is only going to appreciate in value over the coming years

Keep it dude, and hopefully when you want to sell it I will be in a position to buy it then B)

I regret selling mine but had to due to moving abroad. It needed some cosmetic work so it was not as it used to be either but yours looks good so enjoy it and keep it tip top!

Unless you want something newer and similar fun e.g. a Trophy (I have not driven one but judging from the reviews).

No other newer car can provide the same fun IMHO. The only problem with having a 205 is that you cannot have it as your single car but since you already have another car I don't see the problem.

Is yours a daily driver or a fun/weekend car?

I do use my 205 a lot - it gets used 2 or 3 times a week to drive to work (a 60 mile round trip) when the missus takes the family car. We are expecting our first baby in April and at that point I'll need to use the 205 every day. But I've decided to see what happens as we might also move house cutting the miles down on the 205

I did consider replacing it with a Clio 197 Cup. I took one out for a drive, while it is very good, I think the 205 is more involving. But that would be the obvious choice. Otherwise I'd go a bit more plush and go Scirocco or 1 series coupe.

Like I said, I'll keep it 205 for the time being - I keep it regularily maintained and replace bits when they get worn so it is very reliable.

McDude, when I lived in Islington I used to drive my 205s out to Hatfield to work every day. If you've got a 205 that is (comparatively) quiet, refined, and reliable (as I suspect yours is) then it's perfectly acceptable. When you live in London and work outside, you have the benefit of going in the opposite direction to everyone else if you work normal hours (as you obviously know), so commuting in a 205 is not so bad. Back then mine both had Group N exhausts and lowered on standard shocks, Eibach springs, Group N solid beam mounts and Group A front top mounts. These days I making the most of some luxury now I can afford it, and certainly wouldn't want to go back to those days (particulalry having no stereo, and at the worst commuting for nearly a month in the height of winter with no heater matrix!). But if I had a 205 like yours I reckon I could live with it quite easily. We're all different though

Especially as the rust is starting to kick in now and people are breaking them up so much!

I was going to buy your car i think, it was for sale the same week EDP had his MI for sale and for the same money. Both cars were white with the exception of different amount of valves. When i got around to contacting you to arrange viewing the ad disappeared. My plan was to look at both your car and eds as they were both in the London area, but i guess it was not to be. Id imagine you would sell it no problem at the beginning of next spring it always seems the time of year to not only sell convertibles but all cars in my experience.

You still seem attached to the car, so you should keep hold of it i think. I sold my first GTI then found myself coming back the the fold with two of the bloody things :)
