Indicator Problem

Recommended Posts

powermandan

Having intermittent problems with my indicators

it usually does one of 3 things

- neither indicators work

- the left side doesnt work or takes a long time to start going

- left side dash inicator light glows dimly

tried changing the hazard switch no effect and the flasher relay

im thinking i have a dodgy earth or a dodgy connection somewhere

the wiring diagrams in the haynes are pretty much useless.

anyone got any ideas?

any decent wiring diagrams?

location of earthing points?

thanks

Dan

1st thing i'd be doing is checking the earth points are all nice and clean. The front ones in behind the headlamps get alot of corosion setting in. 9 times out of 10 abit of sandpaper/wirebrush and some contact cleaner does the job, and fit some new jaggy washers too B) . Other eath points are in the boot lh side behind the side carpet, and also under the dash at the steering column though they are normally ok due to no being exposed to the weather.

I had my own issue with indicators and it was the rear left light cluster giving jip, may not be your problem though. Just check those things and also the wires as they can be brittle, hard and black now as the cars in genral are getting on abit and need abit of time spent putting them right.

Haynes wiring diagrams are as good as your going to get, and the wiring isn't too complicated on the cars anyhow, just take your time at it if its all new to you.
