Service Oil Change

need some advice doing a service oil change on my 1.9 gti and im trying to find out the best oil and best viscosity to use. ive done a search but found no positive answer. now i know you will say depends on use ect. my engine has 72.000 miles and its road use only no track use. so what do you guys recommend

ive just been offered some castrol20w/ 50w at a good price is it any good

20/50 is too thick.

 

I would use a good quality semi synthetic 10/40.
