Free Beam Trailing Arm Shaft Anyone?

So first and foremost, some pictures of the shaft in question, and yes it really could be yours for free!

So, why is this free? Well to be honest, I want an impartial guinea pig to try this out on their car. It is a used Peugeot shaft that I have machined the worn part out of, TIG weld built up using high chrome and ti stainless rods, and then finish machined back to size. I have test fitted a bearing and it is a nice tight fit as you'd expect.

The inner bearing surface was mint, so it is only the outer bearing surface that has been done.

I will send this within the UK at my cost to someone who will build this into their beam. So what is the catch? A couple of points-

-You must be able to build this into a beam within a reasonable timescale, say before xmas this year.

-Your 205 must do regular mileage, preferably more than say 4k in the year.

-After a test period of say 10 to 12 months, you must be willing to part strip your beam to inspect the condition of this shaft.

After 12 months, if it is hunky dory then its yours to keep. If its knackered and has knackered your beam bearings I'll stand you a new pair of bearings. Can't say fairer than that.

So why don't I fit this myself, well firstly my 205 has done only 1800 miles this year, and also I would prefer someone impartial who can give their thoughts.

So any takers, PM me please. The conditions above are not 100% rigid, talk to me.

Fancy letting me test it with my ZX? I need to sort its beam as it has never been apart in 18 years though is not seized or showing camber

Stiff bars and a heavier car should show any weaknesses quicker than a 205 I'd imagine.

I remember hearing of a Citroen specialist that does precisely this to Xantia beams (slightly different arrangement, but still a shaft nonetheless) don't know what materials or methods they used precisely other than weld and re-grind.

Welsh, so long as it will do the mileage and you don't mind taking it apart again then no problem.

indeed, done over 1k miles since I put an MOT on it 5 weeks ago  taking a beam apart that's been apart in the last 5 years is no bother ;) (as long as it was greased...)
