Compression Readings

Recommended Posts

hey lads,

just done a compression test on the 1.9 gti this morning, because i have a bit of white smoke on cold start and a misfire for about 30secs or so..

car also feels slightly down on power lately too..

#1 cylinder: 7.5bar

#2 cylinder: 9.8bar

#3 cylinder: 10.8 bar

#4 cylinder: 11bar

the car isnt loosing coolant to what i can see, but i have noticed the mayo in the breather pipes seem to be a bit excessive lately..

but then this time of year is quiet damp..

i am thinking HG, maybe valve clearences..

what do you guys think?

Little bit of oil down the bore of cylinder #1 and see if the compression dramatically improves - if it does, it points at rings or liner wear IMO
