Which Pistons For 88mm Crank In 2.0 Block

Recommended Posts

Hi Fellas

First of all, I just want to clarify a few things. Im sorry if this has been covered but I have probably over searched ( over the years ) and just want to make sure i'm doing the right thing.

I've got the 1.9 88mm crank ready to go in to the iron block. Im aiming for 11.5.1 compression and just want to make sure im on the right track.

If i'm to order 87mm high comp pistons, from what I can work out the compression (and piston) are going to go to high. Do I just order standard S16 87mm pistons ( forged ) and let the crank bring the comp up, or do I order high comp items and have the pin high raised 2mm(?)to compensate?

Regards Cam

Standard s16 pistons are 86mm. I achieved 11.5 to 1 with a 88mm crank, s16 pistons and rods. The block was decked less than 4 thou just to clean it up and the head also had a minimum skim of around 4 thou. The pistons had the valve cut outs deepened by 70 thou to clear the cams so that would of reduced the compression ratio a little.

If you are planning on using 87 that will up the compression even more. Unless you do something that someone has already done the only way to know is by mock building, measuring and then adjusting to get what you want.

I agree. All you need is flat tops and a standard thickness head gasket. Depending on pocket depths you'll be in the low-mid 11's.
