Gti-6 Flywheel Oil Seal?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

I have a slow and steady drip/leak running down between the block/gearbox on my GTI-6 engined 205. I've re-sealed the sump twice thinking it might be the cause but it hasn't cured it. I've been told by a few people it's more than likely the rear main flywheel oil seal. Looking at the pic below on Servicebox, am i right in thinking i need to order seal number 6?

Thanks in advance :(

Yes, that's the one. Fairly pricey from Peugeot though, be warned!

(equally though, better doing the job once and doing it properly, than risk a substandard seal failing a few weeks later)

Roughly how much are we talking Anthony? Also is replacing it a simple case of gearbox/clutch off, flywheel nut (??) removed with an air gun then pull the old seal out/push new seal in?

At citroen they are £14.44+vat. Peugeot should be exactly the same.

Pretty much, yes - the flywheel bolts are only meant to be used once, so worth replacing them at the same time for peace of mind

Are the flywheel bolts number 16 in the picture? And i assume there are 8 of them?

Yes and yes

Part number 053740 x 8 ** at 57p each (when I last ordered some anyway)

** - they come in a bag of 10, so you might have to buy 10 if your dealer won't split a pack for you

Tony, once you have things apart, take a good look at the bearing section.

My GTI6 lump leaked from there. It was actually a warped bearing section causing a weep, due to the fact that the wrong length bolts(too long) were used in that section.

The longer bolts distorted the seal face, hence causing an oil leak.
