Rising Price Of Insurance

Recommended Posts

A little annoyed today. I'm due to take delivery of a freshly rebuilt 2.0 mi16, dropped into a forum members 205. Lovverrrly.

The only problem is, since the last time I insured my old 205 Mi16, approximately 14 months ago, the insurance prices seem to have rocketed.

Whereby I used to pay around £400 fully comp, the best quote I could get was £650 fully comp. The best that Adrian Flux could do for me was £1200!

Can you believe it - I've got 9 years no claims, no crashes, no stolen cars, no vandalised cars, no speeding offence in the last 5 years, yet year on year my premium goes up. When I told Adrain Flux how outrageous that was they told me that there has been a significant increase in the rear end claimers - the scammers that deliberately cause rear end smashes and use the insurance to get previously damaged cars repaired/written off.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Recommend me a modified car insurer (not Adrian Flux)!

If it's not your main car, try competition car insurance & the usual classic insurance providers.

They won't be bothered with engine mods etc, unless you have a cage (I found only CCI to be anywhere near competitive with cage!)

My insurance quotes have doubled, even though nothing has changed and have an extra years no claims bonus ;)

+1. I'm with them with my 205 GTi6 on ITBs and its about £350 fully comp with 10k miles a year (much more than I normally do).

Might also want to try Sky Insurance as well. I'm with them for my FTO and they normally give a good quote.

The claim you made, despite the other party being at fault and their insurance paying out in full, will unfortunately have a knock-on effect of increasing your quote come renewal time. Makes little sense and certainly seems unfair, but apparently you're a higher risk having had a non-fault accident ;)

You can all thank the 'no win, no fee' legal companies along with the scamming cheating bar stewards who make fraudulant claims for whiplash etc, sadly for the OP a Birmingham postcode wont help your situation and insurance companies have realised fraudulant claims are centrelised to certain areas (i.e Birmingham) and have adjusted innocent motorists premiums to recover losses.

I payed £403 with HIC last year and I've just renewed and could only get them down to £498, limited to 2k miles a year. Maybe it's the other trackday mods (cage/seats/brakes etc).

At least this covers trackdays, anda guaranteed value of £4k.

I did try REIS but they were £380 without the trackday cover. By the time i've done a couple of days, it's worth spending the extra with HIC.

Thinking of going back to a more standard car and tracking that instead as it'd be cheaper overall!

I'm with Flux, and have always been insured on company cars before the 205, so was pretty shocked with my £650 quote last year inc trackdays, I took it as I couldn't find a better one at the time.

They have sent me the renewal guff via e myther and they now want £210 less, at £440, same cover etc.

All my mods are declared, 4k value and 2k miles a year.

I'm quite pleased with that!

Go classic insurance if the 205 is a second car. My Mi is under £200 with limited mileage.

Incidentally, DirectLine want £250 FC cover for a frigging 106 1.1i. Then when I asked about TPFT, they wanted more. How the hell can you charge more for a policy with less cover? :(

The payout has actually been delayed as the third party is now disputing liability.........w*nker.
