Changing Your Manifold Gasket (another Turbo Q)

Recommended Posts

Guest Kidmans

Hi guys,

A bit of a theoretical question here, the exhaust manifold gaskets do like to blow on the XU10J2TE, has anyone managed to replace the gasket with the turbo still in situ, just moved back, and the engine tilted forward? I have the same engine residing in its original home, regardless access is still a pain and i cannot see a 205 being any better!

yes its possible people have done it in 205s to change the turbo so cant see you having to put more effort in to do the gasket

Not easy on a Xantia! I finally got the manifold off to replace the gasket, leaving the turbo in place, sure is fiddly. How many of you guys have retained the massive heat shield?

On my 205 TT I never used gaskets on the exhaust. With no adverse effects.

Saves it blowing i suppose. Can only see this working if both gasket faces were perfect, my manifold was a bit pitted, head was fine though

Yes, very true. It's not uncommon to do away with the gasket between turbo outlet & exhaust downpipe, too.
