205 Gti6 Running Temp

Recommended Posts

mikeygulley

Hey Guys,

I got my gti6 conversion done this weekend but noticed it ran very hot (on the temp gauge anyway) so I took the thermostat out and put another fan in on a switch. I took this pic earlier when I was driving back from seeing a customer and thought maybe it was still a bit high?? I even had the fan on.

Is this too hot or am I being silly??

Mike

I forgot to say it did get a bit higher in the lanes stopping and starting and when I put my boot down.

The oil temp does take quite a while to move. I wasn't sure if I had a dodgy sensor.

If you're using the same fan, rad and temp sensor as you had in the 8v, then the readings will be the same as they were when in the 8v....it may just get hotter quicker.

Only start worrying when the red warning light comes on.

I'm running one fan, no oil cooler and an Mi and it never overheats even at 35deg ambient.

EDIT: Put the themostat back in, - especially now it's getting colder.

Looks fine, if your cooling system is up to scratch theres no need for an extra fan and def no need to take the thermostat out, as above i'd def put it back.

What sender are you using? as the 6 ones read differently to the 205 ones which I always use because of this

But it does look slightly high as it should sit no further than the 4th line in normal running and without a stat sligtly lower, But as said its worth buying a new one, flush your cooling system out as a normal set up works fine and no need for 2 fan's as its just covering a problem up.

Its roughly the same as mine

Only worry if your overheating while driving!

I'm only running a single fan andmine seems fine

I have a 205 GTi6 too and the next thick line (picture) up is about where my fan cuts in and it cuts out at the thin line down from your current position. Thats only when at low speeds / traffic etc. When in normal driving the fan never kicks in and it never goes above the thin line just below your position. In fact I drove it home one day when the fan switch was playing up and thus no fan and it never went above that thin line below your position whilst driving.

On an off-note, I've found my GTi6 runs much cooler than my old 1.9 8v did. Same coolant system and so forth, but my old 1.9 8v was much higher up and had the fan on almost all the time even when driving. GTi6 rarely turns the fan on unless its idling / stop start traffic.

Thanks guys, I will put the thermostat back in tomorrow evening.

Miles I'm not sure which sender I'm using, Martin from PRD did the loom for me (I just didn't have the time to have a go myself), I have replaced the air con sensor in the thermostat housing for a sensor off the 8v engine (coolant switch?? but kept the other two).

After messing with the car this evening I found that my original fan wasn't coming on and the one I had on a switch was a piece of crap and I would of done a better job farting into the grill!!

Thanks again for the comments.
