205 Gti Techinal Drawings Needed

Recommended Posts

notamondayfan

Im on the look out for high resolution 205 gti drawings, something I can trace over to create a pretty accurate 3D model. I have some blue prints but they are low quality, and the top, side and front dont line up!!

Anything will be useful, interior, exterior, wheels, etc.

Cheers, Deano!

I'd love to have some of these as well, would be a fun modelling exercise.

What package are you using?

Get your tape measure out?

In all seriousness, I'd be really interested in seeing this too.

I've been searching for CAD drawings for ages, found most other cars but not a 205.

There was a thread about it somewhere.

They used paper and very primative computer in the late 1970's. I think you should start by buying an IBM with 5.25 inch floppy and a monochrome monitor.

As above! In the late 70's when the 205 was being designed they wouldn't have had CAD, they would have used pencils and paper.

The best thing you can do is measure, knowing that everything is likely to be in whole units (i.e. 1mm increments).

If you manage to get friendly with a company that have computer measuring equipment, you could create an A-surface (outer skin) of the car from a load of digitised points.. provided you're also very handy with CAD surfacing.

Yea I thought about that Cameron, but from my experience generating point clouds would almost take as long as measuring everything.

I have just had an idea though, if I could get hold on a scale model, I could use our 3D scanner at work and scan the model for sizes. Now where to find a large scale model......?

Funny this should come up. I've just been given a task at work creating a facility in 3D using google sketchup.

I'm qualified in 3D acad but dont have the patience to use it so i'm teaching myself to use sketchup and its really easy.

Anyway - searching through the user created libraries I came accross a few 205s as well as a pimped one with fat exhaust ;)

Also a nice turbo 16 :)

Sketch up is p*ss to use and the file sizes are tiny so rendering is quick and easy. (Orbit with middle mouse button and zoom with roller)

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...amp;prevstart=0 (205 evo bonnet)

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...amp;prevstart=0 (205 carbon bonnet)

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...amp;prevstart=0 (205 Ali G special)

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...amp;prevstart=0 (205 base model 5 door)

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/det...amp;prevstart=0 (205 gti as created by my 15 month old son! )

I think some of these may be representative rather than 100% accurate but if you download the software you can take some measurements to see. May be worth while using one of the above as a starting point.

There are some lovely 3d cars in the archives. Worth downloading the prog. just to play with them. B)

Enjoy

I'm not so sure.. you can split the large areas up into grids and digitise a point every 100mm or so, it shouldn't take too long. The benefit is that you don't then have to manually create complex 3D geometry from a load of measurements, you can just connect the dots.

Mm, while sketchup is good (I use it alot at uni for building models, its not that great at curves or complex intersecting geometry. Also keeping a model like a car clean, accurate and tidy would be very difficult.

I think 3dmax or similar would be needed to do a model accurately and neatly.

Hope you enjoy sketchup tho, if you have any questions then feel free to pm me :)

Download buy SolidWorks or Catia, they're by far the best CAD programs, SW being the more user friendly but slightly less comprehensive little brother of Catia.

I have most of the 205 drawn (engine, engine bay, exhaust tunnel and front rear suspension) but no outer body or interior. pm me but it depends on what exactly you are planning.

Get this guy to do it all for you....

As you can see from this incredibly detailed and accurate fiat panda, the man has incredible talent.

Honestly, you have to see this to believe it

I agree it seems curves and stuff are a bit tricky. Great for what I'm doing with mainly 90 deg angles and pre made blocks.

If i get stuck i'll give you a shout fella ;)

I honestly thought I was looking at a photograph of an actual Fiat Panda at first :)
