Right i have a 1.8stdt with a lucas pump. This morning fires it up no problem but when i accelerated hard then let off the revs would drop down and it would die ,But it started straight away and idle ok .So when i got to work popped the bonnet and adjusted the throttle stop on the pump turned it out 2 turns.

Its now fine but im worried that this is the start of something more sinister?.Any one had any similar issues?.Or am i just worrying about nothing im not to clued up on these tbh ive only really dealt with common rail diesels .

IVe done a search but cant seem to find anything similar the ones i can find either work or dont

cheers for any help

Unsure but ill do it tommorow as its started to play up again but only when cold .Allso anyone think it might be air filter related might take a look at that aswell could be damp and restricting it possibly?

The air filter on the XUD7T needs changing frequently iirc because it has an oil breather piped directly into the airbox that does a very good job of clogging it up with dirty oil.

Check the pump vacuum hose, that might also be a possibility.

IIRC Jimi had a lot of the fuel hoses replaced due to them perishing from age but this is a small hose that runs from the pump to the inlet manifold that if knocked off orsplit could show up with a problem like this.

Right bit of an update allso need some help with parts.I need a lift pump .Anyone any ideas what i can pinch one off such as 306 d turbo or maybe a 406 something common so i can grab it from a scrappy .Tried to change the fuel filter and the canister fell to bits on mine ,So im going to try and get something newer so i can get a canister filter for it .

So any help or ideas what i can get one off would be handy as im pretty desperate for this as this is commuter

Does the lift pump have a 1 way valve in it?

because i have a squidgy ball thingy that some diesels use so might be able to use that and an inline filter

cheers for the help

Are you sure you mean a lift pump, as the XUD engines don't use one - only HDi's and other common-rail diesels.

The priming pump should have a one-way valve in it AFAIK, but I don't believe that's the cause of your problems - if that's faulty, you'll normally have a hell of a time starting and/or priming the fuel system, as the fuel would be trying to run back to the tank.

Yes sorry i ment the priming pump,The cannister is knackerd but may aswell get one of something else wich has a cannister filter instead of a paper one .

And youre right i dont think its related just trying to work through everything but hit a snag with this

So im still after a priming pump from something ?

do you have a steel fuel filter with a priming button on the top of the assembly?

these are known to leak and suck in air, best approach I believe is to find the later assembly from a 405 or 306, you'll need the whole thermostat housing that bolts to the head as the fuel filter sits in a pot bolted to the top of this.

they have a separate priming bulb which has a one way valve in it.

Yes thats the one silly metal cannister with the paper filter inside ,And the button on top ,Cheers for that welshpug ,Thats what i needed to know about the bulb having a one way valve ,I can get an inline filter so that should`nt be a problem allthough if i can find the stat housing in a scrappy ill give it a go

cheers

Liam, its sounds like you are going to take the same route as I did on my old STDT with the later style thermo housing & smaller built in filter bowl.

I've got an alloy canister here, its among the bits I offered to bring across when I met you last week if you wanted them.

Here is my topic with a pic of the factory housing etc on the car.

Worth remembering that those later 405/306 fuel filter housings can also leak and cause running issues - if you're getting one from a scrappy, if everything is still intact, repeatedly squeeze the priming bulb and make sure that there's no evidence of bubbling or leaking around the filter housing.

If you just need the alloy filter housing & not the head as well I can easily post it to you.
