Top Tip, if your going to put a TU engine in the back of a 205-

A ) Make sure you put the exhaust manifold side of the engine towards the front

B ) Make sure you completely fold the seats flat

Failure to do so results in;

I drove back from my mates where the engine was, about half a mile and it bloody rolled back when I pulled off on a up hill!!! I just laughed and was glad I bought a £200 car, exactly for this reason!!!

I thought it's only half a mile! It was quite funny.

Live and learn, now I know what not to do when I pick the gti6 up soon!!!

Ouch, unlucky. When I moved my 8v engine a few weeks ago I just pushed it as far forward in the 406 boot as possible away from the windows and drove like a nun to Miles'. On second thoughts I should have probabally secured it down a bit better! A lesson for the future

It was only half a mile I couldn't be bothered to take the box off or strap it down after a long day at work! (earlies!!!)

It will only be a couple quid to replace it with a pikey one a different colour probably!

Oh no. That's funny though B)

Here's another top tip when transporting an engine.

Make sure it is fully drained of all oils. And put an old blanket or tarp in the boot. Sounds obvious I know. But otherwise you end up with a boot full of oil and ruined rear seats. I am properly stupid though - as this has actually happened to me twice in the past, live and learn - what a muppet eh :lol:

What is really scary is if you consider that you have to make an emergency stop / have a head on accident and all that protects you from an engine in the back of your head is a headrest! I think M@tt was a bit paranoid when he put a 3.0 V6 engine in the back of his 106 (how the back end of it sagged!!)

That reminds me, years ago, probably 15+ years ago now, I was driving along a dual carriageway in my rusty old metro, following (at a distance, not closely) an equally rusty and clapped out fiesta, we were doing 60 or thereabouts. Anyway the grassy middle bit that separates the two sides of the dual carriageway had a section where you could cross it, to turn right, or for cars coming out of the side road to cross to our side - if you follow what i mean. Anyway an old dear pulled into that section but instead of stopping and waiting for us to pass, carried straight on. The poor bugger in the fiesta had no chance and went straight into her and spun around at least 1 turn. We pulled over and stopped, his fiesta was properly wrecked. We gave witness statements and all that and got on our way. Funny thing, well scary thing really, was the bloke had a washing machine in the back of the fiesta!!! How it didn't whack him on the back of the head during the impact, Ill never know. I never gave it much thought at the time but looking back it was a) pretty random and b ) pretty scary when you think what could have happened! The other funny thing about that accident was the fiesta hit a cyclist while spinning. The cyclist was ok as he was thrown into a load of bushes but the bike was somewhat damaged. The old lady tried to drive off, and had to be prevented from doing so by other witnesses.

Anyway, I digress! Seatbelts are a good idea - they are designed to withstand a large force after all - so it's worth using them to strap stuff in.

I thought the same thing when I picked my engine up last week!

As for M@tts saggy back end  I remember when he left the farm with his 6 engine in the boot of that poor little 106

That was very very low, must have been a very scary drive home!

Sorry but that is worse than that advert where a woman shuts the boot of a blue Rover when a fridge is in the back and smash, if it rolls or rocks and its heavy then strap it in via seat belt brackets or similar. At least its only a window and not the other way round.

I remember years ago a mate of mine did this, it was so far fetched you just couldn't not believe it!! You really couldn't explain how else it could've happened though tbh!!

He was working for a used car company and they sent him to pick up an engine in one of thier traded-in hackabouts, a Sierra estate. The story goes he picked up the engine and sat it in an old tyre, which usually works very well...

Only Mark being himself completely forgot/ignored the engine in the back and the first left hander he came to... Smash! B) Took out the rear OS window! He claims to have stopped and panicked a bit but ultimately then remembered who he worked for, a sound bunch of guys that would find it funnier than be bothered about the couple of hundred quid's worth of Sierra estate trade-in, so on he went...

Got to a roundabout, as he pulled onto the roundabout... yep, you guessed it, engine fell backwards & took out the rear screen!! But being already on the roundabout, as he circum-navigated round it the engine of course then fell to the left, and took out the NS window too...

Unbelieveable! But if you knew the guy you'd kind of understand, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box!! I think the guys had a field day with that one!!

Yer alright mr mean! As I said, half a mile and about 1min, I would say most people would not strap it in for that distance.

Some years ago I had to pick up an electric motor from a sister company. Now when I set off I should have realised I did not have the appropriate vehicle (Astra estate 1.6 D).

I pulled up to load the motor told the FLT driver to put it in the white van. After a couple of minutes he came back in and said he could not see white van and said jokingly that I didn't mean the Astra.

His face hit the floor when I said thats the one, chuck it in. Had a squeaky bum moment when loading the motor I probably should say that the motor was at least kg this gave some interesting handling.

1, the interesting handling was down to the fact it was an Astra.

All sorted! Went to the scrap yard in Westbury (Devizes Reclamation) - a quite amazing place!

Image013.jpg

And parked next to the silver GRD I got the boot off? A rather mint (bar the massive side scrape) 1.6 GTI which I got this off

Image014.jpg

Got the boot, dash parts and boot seal for £60, and they take it off for you due to some healt and safety rubbish!

Cheers for the info Ali, I made a visit to there today and got myself a spare air flow meter and a few other little bits and bobs. Shame the seat was sealed with gaffatape! All I need is a bloody seat!

Shame to see it in the scrappy though. Contemplated buying the whole car!
