Recommended Posts

i've got a 2.0 8v turbo for the 205, have a gti6 flywheel, but what clutch is best, and what alternatves are there, i only have the 1.6 gti (reverse under 5th) gear box, but not sure if i would be better of with another box and if so what one?

You want a 405 Mi16 1.9 clutch, this will fit your gti6 flywheel and also work with the 205 clutch mechanism. I have a 1600 box on my turbo 205, it accelerates like its tyres are on fire, I love it but it is a personal choice, as it revs high at motorway speeds.

As Tom said - 1.9 Mi16 clutch is what you need.

Gearbox wise, for a standard 2.0 Turbo I'd say that you really want a 1.9 GTi box or possibly even something a fraction longer. I've not driven/experienced Tom's 1600 Turbo, but certainly the standardish 2.0 Turbo's that I've driven have been distinctly lazy and unwilling to rev, and that sort of characteristic just won't suit a short ratio 'box in my opinion.

Well i have the 1.6 box, so may stick with that, as i'm kinda short on money, what make clutch kit would be good, an original SACHS/VALEO??

Yes, a decent replacement clutch should be fine. Make 100% sure your flywheel surface is flat, have it machined if needs be. Otherwise you may have problems with it slipping until it has bedded in.

Standard 205 GTI will do fine, you should really replace them every time they are removed, but I will admit to having re used them a number of times with no ill effects.

i would say for the £10 or so it would cost, i would replace the driveshaft seals on the diff whislt you'v got everything off, would be a PITA if they started pissing gearbox oil once you've put it all backtogether and filled it up with fresh oil

No a 1900 Mi16 clutch is also push type which is why I suggested it.

BX 16v clutch is a better one to lookup, as they were only ever available as push-type clutches, whereas 405 Mi16's were available with both push (1.9) and pull (2.0) clutches and suppliers frequently make a complete hash of supplying the correct parts as a result.

First of all, what Torque are you running? The std clutch is OK for around 180ft lb of torque and any more they tend to start slipping, Helix seem fine upto 250ft lb which is the most I;ve run one on so far.
