Whats It Worth?

i'm about to take the engine out of my j plate 1.6 gti, jus wondering what its worth, if anything, i've just had the car mot'd and it fle threw the emissions, jus wondering if i'm better off dropping it off at the scrap yard, or trying to sell it, or even swap it for a gear box, i'm putting a 2.0 turbo lump in the pug so none of its really any good to me

Not worth a lot tbh - most people only strip them for parts, and if liners/pistons/crank are scored or worn (like 99% are), then it's worth scrap only.

I managed to sell one earlier this year for £20. Came pretty close to going for scrap though it has to be said!

 

Probably worth more to somebody if they can see it running before you take it out of the car though!

well i have to strip the front end down first, so if anyone did wanna see it running there more than welcome to pop down

Put it on ebay, you'll get twice as much for it on there than on here. It sounds bad to sell it to some 'unsuspecting punter' but if their happy and your richer everyones a winner!

i just bought a cylinder head yesterday for 60 quid.. he said it had a meatier cam and it had been skimmed but on both acounts it hasnt lol.. ooh well

I have one, came out of my rally car but as it leaked oil and each time i fixed one leak it leaked some where else. So it would need a rebuild i think.
