Oh No. I Found Renault Sport

I purchased a nice Renault Clio 172 Ph1 for work to tinker with and develop some custom parts but dammit I like it! I now seriously have a doubt about getting my sorrento back on the road as it seems a little outclassed in even things like build quality.

Admittedly the powersteering is a bit light but its so sure-footed and as I drive like Captain Slow to and from work its registering 43mpg. Its certainly not as rapid as a 205 mi16 and lacks that frantic eagerness when accelerating but its not too bad for a more refined and dare I say it a more grown up car. Its way too quiet though as standard its lacking that musical feedback to my ears.

Its definitely not german made though as its broken already! :) The speedo sensor on the gearbox i think sits too close to the exhaust manifold so died a premature death. For once a straightforward fix and Renault seem to have plenty in stock. Will get a little thermal blanket to protect it ongoing.

I'm seriously contemplating, clearing out my 205 parts and getting my racecar back rather than reviving the sorrento as what if I drive it, like that again and have a dilemma!

It's basically a more grown up, modern 205 with more toys, but not a patch on the 205! :)

You WILL get the Sorrento going!! ;)

they are good fun to drive but i had more problems with my nearly new 182 than iv had with any of my 205s! if you sold you 205 you would definately regret it, besides, 205s have a classier retro image now, while the clio sports are getting dirt cheap and alot of boy racers have them now! it may be reliable at the mo but when it does go it wont be cheap! stick to 205s!

I've seriously been tempted by the 172, but then i look at it, and its a clio. 205 kills it in the looks department :)

My bro in law had a Clio 172 cup, awesome on track.. But the driving position was always an issue... Too high (Std seats)

This is a definate fact, my girlfriend said it when we were following one the other day.

I've driven a friends 172 cup a few times and they are quick and handle quite nicely it's just a shame they were made by Renault, There is no easy job on them and there not short of problems

and i think the gear box is too long, and most likely weak like most renaults!

They fly well!!! I was co-driving in this one earlier this year.

But then that one has had a few small changes made - sadev 6 speed sequential and 250+bhp for starters. The road ones are good to drive but they're just not a 205.

I certainly think the ph2 looks girly, but the ph1 is better. Its the lightest of the models too so seems sprightly despite having the longest ratio final drive of the Mk2 RS's. Seems to work ok for daily use..

Had a thrash down lots of country lanes yesterday and it feels heavier but a much stiffer chassis so still good fun.

I think I will wash the 205 as its dirty. I might love it more then lol
