From One Problem To The Next...

Recommended Posts

While driving out of a pub car park for lunch, heard a twang, clutch hit the floor and the car stalled...

Thankfully i was on a hill and rolled back into the car park.

As i was in the pub a customer came out and had a look and had a fiddle to try to fix it and has left me with theses parts...

DSCI0346.jpg

The two metal tabs appear to be broken. I have rang pug and they do not no what part i need (as per usual) So i come to you guys for advice (as per usual!)

As i didnt take the part apart i do not no how it goes back together or how it all functions correctly and my haynes manual is useless!!!

Can someone please give me a part number, What has broken and how i put it back together.

Cheers

I no that things come in three so touch wood that nothing else goes wrong!!!! Turbo will probibly die next!!!!

Surely it's just a new clutch cable?

I second that. Haven't seen those parts before and I have a BE3 gearbox on my gti and an MA on my Xs, so I would assume you would be needing a cable for a BE1 gearbox? Best thing to do is remove the cable and take it with you to pug or your motor factors, then you'll get the right cable.

EDIT: Just noticed you have a turbo conversion, do you know what clutch cable you are running? As it could be from the donor car.

Yes you need a new clutch cable, those bits are from the pedal end of a BE1 cable.

Pretty easy to change, make it simpler by unbolting the clutch pedal to hook the white tab onto the pedal as that can be a pain in the arse to do!

No white plastic on a BE1, it uses the metal bits that have broken off.

BTW you should go back to where it first snapped as it will have dropped a metal bar (approx. 30x5mm) from under the bonnet onto the floor.

The turbo gearbox doesn't fit the 205 so that is one problem he wont have.

Ahhh that's good. Glad its just a cable. That won't be to hard to change. Best get hunting for that bar! Was dreading that it was part of the clutch cable and pug would say a weeks wait for the part!

Thanks guys!

:) Well I stand corrected then!

There's two different types of BE1 clutch cables for 205's, so make sure you get the right one - they're different where they go through the pedal box into the engine bay. Early ones have a black twist-fit fitting, whereas later ones have a BE3 style white push-in fitting.

I used the top chrome part of a cheap fag lighter as a temp. fix years ago. The part the flame comes out of doubled as a makeshift circlip in the recess of the retaining pin. Lasted a couple of years like that :)

I don't think Pug supply them anymore either, but most factors will

I bought one from GSF recently, not a stock item but it came in next day.
