Peugeot And Their 107

Recommended Posts

jeremy

Well last tuesday a 107 was delivered to me house as a hire car twhilst my insurers decided on what will happen with regards to my Discovery. Now I'll be the first to admit that since the end of the 106, and 306 I have not realy been a Peugeot fan, but I may just be changing.

The car is a five door in black and very clevery made to look like a three door with the exception of another two handles, and nice colour coded bumpers along with alloy wheels. The interior certainly looks very modern compared to a 205, and the only three criticisms are the large illuminated plastic heater controls, no glovebox lid (for hiding Ipod, Sat Nav etc), and no electric window button on the drivers side for the passengers window. That's it. Ok I'll even admit that has a very small boot, but your not going to buy this car to cart suitcases in, although one could argue that with two iso fix seats in the rear that maybe there should be room for the pushchair, but I don't care my wife owns a Kia people carrier anyway!

Onto the engine and stuff, I was told I would be getting a 1 litre, but I'm just not sure it seems to nippy with great throttle response. It comfortable gets up to the national speed limit with nominal effort, ok it does not have 1.6GTI overtaking abilities, but does have airbags for when things go wrong, take your pick? The handling feels well balanced and the steering not too lite compared to other small hatches I've driven of late. definately worthy of 4.5 out of 5

Sadly it made me realise how far small modern cars have come on and how the gap between base models and GTIs are forever closing with the list of standard options, it probable comes with more than a late spec 205 GTI, with electric this and electric that. It made come to terms that my 954CC Junior of 1987 was so last century in terms of refinement. It did however make me want to tax and MOT my 1.9 GTI just for the sheer driving factor (oooh the LOOS) :D

Ironically one of its so called good points actually annoyed me, but to be fair this wasn't Peugeots fault but the government. The road tax said NIL on the disc. Now it occured to me that some bugger could drive around all day and other than fuel not pay one bit to the wear and tear on the road, yet some poor OAP going shopping once a week has got to either cough up possibly around £200 or for a new car. You could just imagine finance will be popular in the over 65s catagory NOT!!!

I hope you have all found this informative. I could say more but I realise you may just want to stay awake to see the rest of the X Factor! :o

Yep i pointed this out to a guy at a Ruyton open day when they first came out. Had the bonnet lifted and on top of the manifold heat shield was a big toyota logo!

The bonnet soon got shut!

We looked at these when car shopping. We pointed out to the dealership that it was simply too small as the Mrs needs space for a pushchair and suddenly the back seat was being folded so we could see how it would look as a 3 seater and the pushchair!

Lots of equipment for very little money, brand new they are 6k otr

Of three, prefer the Aygo - just looks better imo

Not amused how they created a 'Rallye' 107 by adding white strips and matching mirror covers :P

My mate has the Citroen C1 equivalent of this and loves it to bits as its nippy and great handling. Personally I think they all look horrid and are far far too slow, a fact I made evident to him as we convoyed back from London to Exeter once. Him in the C1 and me in the FTO - C1 0-60 of eternity, versus GPX manual of about 6.8 seconds :D Still, if you do enjoy driving the car and it gives you fun and frills whilst still under the speed limit then thats got to be a good thing

I miss my C1 quite a bit as it was an enourmous laugh to drive and the engine was superb. Was a lot quicker than I expected it to be and it begged to be thrashed all day long. Sigh... Was blo0dy uncomfortable though and stupid things like the courtesy light only working off the drivers door were a pain when trying to strap my daughter into the back (5 door) at night. Oh, and the tyres were very pricy and didn't last any time at all.

They are quality cars except for the way they seem to eat clutches and waterpumps (which run off of the fanbelt, oddly enough). Oh, and there have been endless problems with door and boot seals. But the 384F 1litre petrol is a very good engine. A friend of mine is currently in the works of turboing one, I;m looking forward to seeing that. If its not all talk and it actually happens i will be sure to post some pics/info.

The company next to us are community carers and have these as company vehicles. I've had a sit in one and they are quite nice.

The back doors are really very clever with just the door handles giving away the fact it's a 5 door.

Just another update really, the horn is on the steering wheel and the amount ot times I've pressed it by accident is nearing double figures it is seems too sensative. Still having fun though!

Hard to say on all three due to odd smoking issues :):lol:

I had one as a hire car and you had to hit the limiter in 1st, 2nd and 3rd to get the thing up to motorway speeds. Was kind of fun though, so much so that i recommended that my mum get one, she loves it and it's been perfectly reliable - just not very fast but she's not very interested in that!

Me and the misses had an Aygo when we were out in Finland watching the WRC out there last year. Was a fun little thing, very revvy and sounded quite throaty. Handbrake was ok when we took it down one of the stages on recce day :)

Nice fun little car but too small for me.. living with it for a week was ok though.

Second gear was good for 60 ear-splitting mph if memory serves! It had a long first gear too which meant it was a demon at getting around roundabouts quickly, you didn't need to change gear halfway around! At town speeds, it was one of the quickest cars I've driven. I also managed to get 105mph at midnight on a deserted duel carridgeway but you needed two lanes. It wasn't the most stable car at high speed!

Thought their engine was not found in any other model? A little bit more than just stripes :)
