Front Suspension Rebuild

Recommended Posts

davey sprocket

Replacing various parts of the front suspension to tighten things up and get rid of an awful clunking that happens over bumps/ potholes on the nearside (there ever since I replaced the wishbones with those from a car I broke that had nearly new bushes. I now suspect that the balljoint on one of them was shot already or damaged in the accident that led to the car being scrapped)

I keep reading about ovalled front hubs..... what should I be looking out for? I'm assuming that this refers to the ball joint mounting at the bottom of the hub, but is it obvious if there is a problem, or will it only be picked up with special measuring kit??

This is the hub on the side I've got the problem with... sorry, only one is in focus

It looks good to me but would appreciate a second opinion!

Also am I going to regret fitting hard top mount rubbers... now that I have the original 120,000 mile ones, the new standard ones and the uprated ones next to each other, I am slightly taken aback by how hard the uprated ones are!

the hole looks nice and round to me! what shocks are you using? i didnt like the hard top mounts on my old 1.9, standard ones felt much better on the road. it depends what you are going to be doing with it i suppose!

Yeah, it looks round to me too... just don't know whether that's good enough, has anyone got a pic of a knackered one to compare?

I've got standard shocks and springs atm but am tempted to raid the piggy bank and have a word with Miles for some Eibach springs and Billy B4s while its all apart.

Its a weekend toy that does very little mileage. I think I'll try the hard ones, at least I know I've got the standard ones there ready to fit if I don't like it. That'll help me make my mind up on whether to solid mount the rear beam when I rebuild that too I guess.
