Recommended Posts

1st of all has this been done by anyone on here? as have not hear alot about it being done

if this is done would it reduce the oil surge problems and is there any performance gains to be had that are worth while?

which bits of the gti6 head and mi16 head are compatible?

yes, cameron did it.

no bits of the head itself are interchangeable bar possibly the hydraulic tappets.

they run 4 coils.

everything lines up, you need to mess around with the belt covers.

Or run an XU7 block and use all the XU7 covers and tensioners.

And it's been covered in other topics several times if you search. Even Welshpug looked into it and other options, as well as Cameron's topic.

Don't be afraid to search. It's quite easy.

And the head you use doesn't dictate what coils and ignition system you use; that's really down to management choice and then a bit of personal preference.

cheers guys yes sorry your right of course they run 4 coils think i got confused with my old c class as that ran twin coils my fault, thanks for the info and will look into this as was just interested as it reduced the surge issue as know baffled sumps help but anythng else that could help cant be a bad thing other than a dry sump.

which cars are the XU7 fitted to and is this an easy upgrade into 205/309's as been looking into getting a goodwood after xmas as the next project and am still debating over 2.0l 16v or always wanted to try the 3.0l v6 option. i know with the v6 theres extra weight but tuning seems less for more power but open to suggestion still as to best option

The V6 is not much heavier than the Iron block engine and with the ride height at the front not dropping when I stuck it in I would say pretty much the same due to it being all Alloy.

I know someone who did it but had endless problems trying to get the oil system to breath properly, on the other had Cameron seems to have made it work perfectly.

Assuming you're talking about Ash, I thought he got it working in the end, just prior to selling it and getting his new engine built?

Not sure why you couldn't just run an XU7 breather setup though - logically it should be a straight fit and work.

As far as i recall it worked fine on the road but as soon as it went on a track the entire contents of the sump would fly in to the catch tank and all over the engine bay/road.

XU7 breather system should work properly, not sure what breather Cameron is running though?

Surely the engine needs to be running before you need to worry about oil surge? <_<
