yes me to to be honest the one i went out in was running the same set up that i would do. up to 4000rpm i would say not much in it but abovewhen the mi hits 4000to4500 rpm its like youve been kicked in the ar-e right up to 7500rpm i was impressed

Worth every drop of hassle so long as it's done right and not bodged. Smiles per mile are much more frequent in my Mi than ever were in my 1.6 8v. Do it :D

As above, having a 16v (GTi6 in my case) engine in the 205 makes it a right hoot and its very brisk on the acceleration. I love driving it so much, and the difference is power between the 1.9 8v engine and the GTi6 engine is immense. When it was a 1.9 8v my 205 could in no way keep up with my FTO and felt very noticeably slow in comparison. With the standard GTi6 engine in it it was doing about the same kind of times of acceleration with the same drvier (me) as my FTO. Now it has ITBs and is fulyl mapped it just nudges ahead of my FTO now. So I'm well pleased with the performance of a 16v 205. 8)

HOWEVER, I feel my 205 has lost its original charm, sounds and feel now and in the future probably won't be worth as much as its not original. The 205 is a classic, but soon there won't be many standard ones around. Which would be a shame.

It's ALOT more difficult to get (real) Mi power from an 8v.

Is that the whole car that's done the miles or is it a replacement engine. If it was the whole car i'd be tempted to sell it, as it should fetch decent money providing the bodywork and general wear is reflective of only 72000 miles. Then with the funds, buy a decent shelled/knackered engine and put the mi in that. Or sit on the 8v and let it appreciate (if funds, space, etc allow) and buy a tidy shell for the mi.

Just my 2 pence worth.
