Gti6 Wiring Issues - No Fuel Pump Voltage

Recommended Posts

keeperlit

Hey folks,

I've got the Xsara VTS engine and box installed into my '89 miami. Still having a few problems with wiring (amongst others!).

When the ignition is switched on, the double relay clicks, but the fuel pump isn't going, and I don't seem to be getting any voltage on the fuel pump connection. I tried sticking 12V directly onto the pump and it seems to work fine. The wiring at the pump seems to be okay too.

The engine and box is out of a 1998 phase 1 VTS, and I am using wire 1200 as the fuel pump feed from the xsara loom.

Any ideas of things to check?

Is the fuel inertia cut off switch still installed (and if so, has it popped and needs resetting) and if not, has the plug been bypassed (ie the two wires joined)? Both those will stop power getting to the fuel pump.

On a Xsara VTS loom, it's located on the drivers side near the wing

Thanks Anthony. I already have the inertia switch bypassed though (2 wires joined).

Fuse? or the plug in the fuse box?

Check for power out of the Relay, the Diag's on the side of it for the right pin, cannot recall off the top of my head

Of the top of my head this is where the loom is very slightly diffrent to a gti-6 before you srart looking at 6 looms and becoming confused, later (if i remember!) i will have a look at my diagram for the vts.

Sorry if you already know, but the fuel pump only switches on while the engine is running or being cranked over. The relay is a double one, one for ignition which you will hear click when you switch on the ignition the other is for the fuel pump.

Okay, that would seem to explain it. I guess it's time to get the exhaust finished, put some fuel in and get it cranked over! Hopefully it starts then, but I'll keep you posted....

Thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated :-)

All sorted now!

I got the exhaust on and tried cranking it - still no fuel pump activity, and the engine didn't start. After a bit of hunting, I discovered I wasn't getting the required 12v at the double relay - I didn't have BB2 connected to the battery/permanent live!

So, after fixing that, the fuel pump now primes and the engine runs, yay!

Big thanks to Pete (2052006) who helped me sort out the other ICV/idle speed wiring issues. for more info see here:
